Calzaghe vs Froch
Calzaghe vs Froch
I know this gets asked a lot but once and for all let's see what the true boxing fans seem to think if they were to fight. Most polls that I have put up for fights over the last 6 months have all but 1 been correct in naming the exact method of result and winner.
So, who would win this fight?
I haven't gone for any other options than who wins to make it straight forwrad.
For the record, I see Calzaghe winning on points.....

Calzaghe wide on points.

Bang on, work rate too much. Froch would get very frustrated. For me it's always been an easy pick.
Re: Calzaghe vs Froch
a dominant performance by calzaghe winning by 5 or 6 rounds. be surprised if anyone thinks froch will win

Re: Calzaghe vs Froch
I'd edge toward Calzaghe, it certainly wouldn't have been easy though, and would most likely have had to get off the floor to win.

Re: Calzaghe vs Froch
I think Calzaghe fairly comfortably on points. His foot work, hand speed and number of shots would have been too much. Froch would have had the odd moment of success though, but after seeing him struggle with Dirrel and Ward and I have to go with Calzaghe, who despite being fed a lot of rubbish competition was a seriously good fighter/boxer.
Re: Calzaghe vs Froch
This is an easy one to pick. I love Froch but he'd have lost most if not every round versus Calzaghe. I'd be surprised if anybody who actually knows what they're talking about could ever cobble together an argument in favour of Froch.

Re: Calzaghe vs Froch
Even the Froch that turned up against Abraham, Pascal and Bute would have been soundly outpointed by Calzaghe.
We saw what happened when he fought Ward, it would be similar to that, but less messy.

Re: Calzaghe vs Froch
I could see Calzaghe maybe making harder work of it than he should (ala the Brewer and Woodhall fights - although Richie fought a good fight tactically and deserves credit). However, just think Joe has too much of everything for Froch, too quick, too much of an engine, too much of a tough chin.
Possibly 117-112 verdict with many saying the judges were harsh on Froch for making it a fight.
Calzaghe vs Ward, Prime Jones or Prime Hopkins..... different arguement altogether.

Re: Calzaghe vs Froch
Froch even acknowledeged on Ringside he probably couldn't have won a decision against calzaghe and would have had to knock him out to get the win which, considering calzaghes very good chin and even better powers of recuperation, would have been a nigh on impossible task given that Froch has good but not great punching power. Calzaghe wide UD.
Re: Calzaghe vs Froch
Provided Joe was not reckless in his approach - and he could occasionally try to look too much of the flash Dan - he would be the pick to win this fight fairly comfortably for me.

Re: Calzaghe vs Froch
Joe was open to the right hand and I do think Froch would have had the power to hurt him and win a few rounds. Joe would have won but only by a 116-112 type decision, kind of like the Kessler fight. Neither is stopping the other.
Re: Calzaghe vs Froch
Calzaghe would overcome Froch's awkwardness to win a decision.
I don't think Froch has the discipline to box Calzaghe from the outside for 12 rounds, which would be his only shot at winning. He doesn't punch hard enough to knock Joe out and would be soundly beaten in the close exchanges.

Joe was but Froch doesn't throw a great straight right.Riddick Blowe wrote:Joe was open to the right hand and I do think Froch would have had the power to hurt him and win a few rounds. As much as we all love Froch he isn't quick enough of hand or foot and Calzaghe certainly isn't falling apart ala Bute. Calzaghe's love of a tear up makes it interesting but there is only one winner.
Re: Calzaghe vs Froch
Calzaghe 117-111 for me
I would like to hear from the current 15% of people who think Froch would win and hear their comments

Re: Calzaghe vs Froch
I don't rate Froch much in a tear up, unless the other guy is pretty weak he usually comes second.
Pascal and Johnson both had their share of success in close - the Pascal fight in particular was one-sided once Froch started boxing, using his jab to good effect.
Ward obviously dominated him and Kessler also worked the body well to slow him down.

Re: Calzaghe vs Froch
I just cannot see a way how Froch ever beats Calzaghe.
Froch is not quick enough to outpoint Calzaghe who also had better workrate, plus he isn't knocking out Calzaghe either.
Calzaghe on a unanimous points decision.

Re: Calzaghe vs Froch
I think you are being unfair there tbh mate, froch has a decent chin and can definately have a toe to toe (ask bute)LeedsLad wrote:I don't rate Froch much in a tear up, unless the other guy is pretty weak he usually comes second.

However, between Calzaghe and froch, only one winner for me....Calzaghe all the way....

I'm one of Froch's biggest fans, as he has always seeked out the biggest challenges & isn't afraid to get on a plane, but he is definitely made to order for Joe Calzaghe.
