As the BBC still seems to have a few problems with their presentation, and Sky coming in for critisism on another post, Im just curious as to what others think of Channel 5s coverage.
Ok its tucked away in the wee small hours of a saturday night / sunday morning but I quite like it. the combination of 'classic' fights (last night was a couple of nigel benn bouts) and a feature on Jack Johnson was well worth taping. they also show some good smaller American shows from ESPN usually a couple fo days after they have taken place.
And best of all theres no John Inverdale
All inall its not too bad at all.
Personally I dont have sky so miss out a lot on seeing many of the domestic bouts and have to rely on sites such as this or from the radio (radio five has a contract with Warren to broadcast many of his fights live, Hatton and Calzaghe predominatly) to get all the news on whats happened.
CHANNEL FIVE
Its not Channel 5's coverage, its a direct tape from ESPN. If you remember the old classics used to be shown on sky labelled "Big fights" - exactly the same coverage.
Five have done their own boxing presentation, Jane Couch bouts used to feature on Channel Five sports show "Live and Dangerous" and of course they did an excellent job with Holyfield vs Moorer 2, showed the undercard had a studio panel and they brought in Reg Gutteridge. That was almost up there with Sky .

their job on holyfield/moorer II was way better than SKY.
they showed the entire US preview with long flashbacks and home interviews with moorer and holyfield, which you never get with SKy anymore.
they even had lennox as the co-commentator which made up for havingto listen to senile old 'happy to be here' reg gutteridge.
i wish c5 would get back into stealing big fights.

Some of those ESPN fights are really good! Took me a while to catch on to them, but recent bouts I've enjoyed that aired the past month or so were:
Tokunbo Olajide vs Larry Marks - thought Orlando, even though I don't think he's that good a ref, got this one right. What was Marks expecting him to do if he goes down again at the count of 8?
(did anyone notice Olajide in the crowd at the Mosley-Wright fight? He had on one of his trademark hats. I think it was him...)
Glen Joe Rayburn vs William Gibbs - Gibbs is a relative of Hopkins I think they mentioned? At least that would explain the mask. As for the fight: the first round was the definition of a 'simmering start'.
(it's annoying how they keep mentioning they have X in the studio commentating yet C5 don't air his remarks) :(
There was another good fight between two latinos - one was a DLH prospect - and DLH did some commentary. Atlas' analysis was good in this fight I felt, and the fight was quite good though a bit one sided.

i couldn't believe they showed nigel benn v jorge amparo and i missed it 
that is one of the few nigel benn fights i don't have and i only caught the last 2 rds. :x
they could have showed 2 better fights than those 2 from benn's career as amparo and williams r 2 of the poorest. he was lucky to scrape by against williams that night.
that jack johnson documentary was very good
johnson's voice was cracking me up looking back at that old footage does ram it home to u how much boxing has improved over the years though it really was awful action wasn't it.
