I'd seen the vid already but thanks for the link nonetheless.

I thought Hatton showed a lot of class at the end. Still wish he wouldn't insist on referring to himself in the third person though!

thanks for the link. referrring to himself in the third person is a sympton of what causes him mental problems...he doesn't see himself as himself just as the "ricky hatton" character that only really exists on fight night. it's seperate to him, that's why he can't ever find peace or live up to (his own) expectations.

in fact, it's very sad listening to hatton talk like that as he is being too hard on himself. he shaped boxing in the uk the same way as tyson did for a generation. he's given us all some of the best nights in boxing and acheived a hell of a lot. he's right not to continue but i wish he would have leathered junior witter instead of going in with a live wire like senchenko.

Hearing a 3 time world champion trying to convince himself that he is "not a failiure" was one of the hardest things I've heard in a boxing interview.

He's got to have the support. To be honest, I am not sure I ever completely bought into when Ricky talked about his depression BEFORE the fight. I often thought it was just something he noted to try and save face after being caught doing drugs so publicaclly. However, his post fight interview highlighted completely and utterly that he does suffer from this terrible illness.

I wish him well, his family have (dad and mam) have got to swallow their pride and support their son now. Whatever happened in the past, no matter who was right or who was wrong - their blood is a totured soul.

If boxing is what Ricky still craves to help him - then let him box.

If i wanted to scream louder than anyone else, i would be posting and doing threads all the time on here.....and i don't, i rarely post, so stop being a tad immature. My only reason was to have a say on Hatton initially and then put up the post conference thread so people could watch it.

It would seem a few people are grateful for that. This forum isn't as busy as it used to be and it was a unique night for British boxing, so i think it's fair to expect quite a few Hatton threads, same as you get with Fury, Price, Chisora, Haye etc etc.

What ruins these forums are the same inane threads, week after week, sometimes one after the other, just worded differently. Very sad press conference and hard to watch. I was at the fight on Saturday and could see from early on that Hatton has diminished an awful lot. His timing was just not there and I lost count of the amount of times he loaded up with big hooks and missed by a mile. That sort of thing saps energy over the course of the fight and though I thought Hatton was just about winning the fight, in the long run I think it's a good thing that he lost this one as despite what he says, he would have carried on had he won and could have ended up getting a really serious beating if he came up against a bigger puncher.

All in all, he gave it his best shot and should be very proud of himself for what he has done for British boxing but he really does need to stick with his retirement decision now.

They are the type of people who work for the council and go through your bins, making sure that you have seperated your rubbish into the correct containers

I do worry for Hatton for the future however as once this defeat sinks in it may hurt him a lot more than the Mayweather and Pacman defeats did. Senchenko, though competant, is not world class and going out on his knees to a fighter like that must torture him mentally. He kept saying in the interview that he was happy but he came across as anything but happy to me. He needs to resolve the rift with his parents as he'll need their support in the future and he also needs to stop drinking completely. Drinking will exagerrate how depressed he'll feel.

Boxing careers arerather like political careers, they invariably end badly. I honestly believe that if Hatton hadn't of lost in the manner he did against Pacquaio, then he would have retired and not come back at all. It was the way in which he lost that bothered him. If he had lost on points or even stopped in the way that Floyd stopped him, then i think he wouldn't have been so distraught about things.

At the end of the day, boxing is all about making money, titles and reputation come second and third. He has his health and plenty of brass, a young family and a good future in boxing as a trainer / promoter. All fighters eventually fade into memory, event the greats like Leonard, Jones, Duran, Hearns. It's howboxing is, the kingis dead, long live the king etc etc
