What fight is considered the biggest robbery?

Post by Controversial »

There are numerous fights where the decision is disputed by fans but what fight is generally considered by most (or all) as being the most blatant robbery witnessed in a ring?

That was a bad one. The Olympic Commission admitted there was corruption but refused to reverse the decision.

Pac-Bradley.

The boxing commission submitted a tape of the fight to one hundred and one judges and 98 gave it to Pac.

Not sure about that one, controversial yes but some people think Bradley won, certainly wasn't a one sided beating where everyone agrees the loser was robbed. One of those fights where rounds could be scored either way, depending how you viewed it.

Pac/Bradley was fairly officiated compared to Escalera/Everett. Tyrone won more rounds than they fought and he got jobbed in his hometown.

Spinks/Burnett is another one as is Hagler/Antuofermo in spite of Howard's commentary and a growing sentiment threw the years that the fight was remotely close.

Dunno, as mentioned before it wasn't a one sided beating. It was a hard fight to score and many fans and sportswriters thought Bradley won. Definitely not the sort of fight where the winner was so obviously the loser.

Many writers thought Bradley won?
There's really no reliable way to tell about fans, as Internet polls aren't scientific and hence not reliable.

Yes there are a fair few people who thought Bradley won and plenty of people on forums saying they thought he won too. It was a hard fight to score, far from being one sided. Controversial yes but not the biggest robbery in history IMO.

Again, you can't rely on forums for numbers. Some people post on more than one forum, and people have had multiple identities on forums, including boxrec. (There's one maniac that keeps coming back named thismodernlove who usually outs himself, but that's just one example.)

Yeah, I had it 10-2 Pacquaio but it was nowhere near the worst decision I've seen. There were enough close rounds that 7-5 for Manny would be a reasonable card. That was only marginally worse than Pac/Marquez 3.

Yes I appreciate that. However as I said the fight was far very being one sided IMO. I didn't see the fight live but when I read all the scandal afterwards I was expecting to see the most blatant and corrupt robbery ever. I didn't see it that way, it was a lot closer than the press made it sound. Amongst my friends who saw it some thought Bradley won, others didn't.

One that has always stuck in my mind is Fidel Castro Smith -v- Henry Wharton.

Smith boxed Wharton out of the county, yet the referee raised Wharton's hand at the end. :x

Have you ever seen Conteh/Burnett? The London crowd was cheering Burnett at the end after the decision.

Whitaker/Ramirez I was awful, as was Gomez/Lockridge. Gomez couldn't even give a post-fight interview.

Louis down twice and 21 of 31 boxing writers thought Walcott won.

The margin was much wider for Pac/Bradley.
