Anyone know what's happening with him? He hardly ever fights. Goes on twitter saying he doesnt get paid by his promoter.

He isn't getting any younger and needs to be out 4 times a year IMO to get back in contention.

Does he even still train when he isn't scheduled to fight?

I can't see him getting back to soon, Warren doesn't seem to want much to do with him now.
But he can still be in some entertaining fights if he wants to, i can't see him ever getting to world level though, the 2 times he's faced world level boxers he lost inside 4 rounds

I think Mitchell has essentially fucked himself in the ass by publicly discussing his financial relationship with his promoter.

If he wants to have any future he needs to make some big decisions and soon, it certainly seems FW doesnt want or care to get him out anytime soon.

To be fair to his promoter, he signed Mitchell as an 18 year old on what is described as a very good contract financially - he has spent the last 10 years speculating a lot of money and getting him fights for the British, Commonwealth and World titles.

Has he had the commitment he hoped for from Mitchell in return ?

It is clear that he is now fed up with him - but so would I if I had spunked all that money.

A fighter normally will have had to sign a 'long form' contract stating that if he fought for any recognised title, then he'd enter into another 3+ year term automatically or whatever.

The above is great when you win, but if lose you could find yourself mothballed as your stock plummets, because the promoter does not want to put a card together around you as it might not make them money, unless your a monster ticket seller or a heavyweight - then your screwed.

Obviously losing the fight never crosses these fighter's minds - and you see a trend of losers struggling to get shows after unless it's as the opponent on another promoter's card, over in America or in Europe. Because their handler can claim their management fee from their purse.

Briefly, after he pissed away all his money. He was very well paid and has even bragged about his Rolex's etc several times in the past. He has been really well looked after by FW. His pretty constant scrapes with the law and his terrible excuse after the beating by Katsidis would have tested the patience of anyone. I think FW really wants a London star and had earmarked Mitchell for the job. The writing was on the wall for me during the Johannesson fight.

Interesting. The best thing he could do would be go to America and almost start again. Get with Roach or someone and live the life completely but something tells me he that would never happen. Wasted talent.

mitchells prob is he never had to learn his trade the way, say, burns did. He was spoon fed ghanaians and eastern euros when he should have been tussling with the alex arthurs, willie limonds, john thaxtons, gavin rees, michael gomez of this world. He was a bit of a golden boy so very well looked after when it came to match making. And as a consequence he came u short when it mattered. He raves about the prescott win like thats remotely impressive (he was clearly a one shot wonder) and struggled with johansson who respectfully, was just below euro level. I cant believe so many people thought he had world class potential when he'd never fought any1 of note. The Murray win is his best night and hes a limited albeit very tough brawler who was out on the piss during training.

Im pretty sure he hasnt lived the life for a while, and for all the stick we give FW, I cant blame him for leaving Mitchell out in the cold.

because of his brushes with the law he cant get into america hence Murray challenging Rios after Mitchell beating him,if I was FW id cut my losses with him and terminate his contract.

you've contradicted yourself a bit here moosh...you've said he got treated like a golden boy, looked after and matched softly when he should have been given tough domestic fights and had the work ethic ingrained.

all the money wasted comes as a result of believing that someone is gonna bail you out because they have mollycoddled you thus far.

perhaps FW is reaping what he sowed here and is now casting aside. real shame for Kev because I think he could have been world champ.

he could live the life, but when its counted his chin let him down. No trainer can make that much difference now

oh yeah i agree completely, FW brought it on himself. what i should have typed was the grief kevins given him on top of failing to perform on the big occasion. the trouble with the law meaning he couldnt travel, the pissing it up, thinking hes a bigger draw than he actually is etc. Hes ultimately more trouble than hes worth if he wont sort himself out. But yes, FW could have found out about his short comings a lot sooner and at a much cheaper expense if he'd have been prepared to risk him along the way.

Mitchell was flaky on an Anerican undercard too, possibly Pavlik vs Lockett (?) anyway the opponent could not miss him.

To give him some leeway he was supposed to fight an orthodox and a southpaw came in I think.

Nonetheless , his form goes up and down. Prescott and Murray were great, then Katsidis he wasn't there at all.

I like him and is value, so hope he plugs away and gets a fight.

He has fantastic speed and good power - he caught Ricky Burns with some great shots and then got into the 'lets have a war' mentality - which isnt so good as he always leaves himself wide open and gets caught - anyone with decent power puts him away if he fights like this.

He needs to box a lot more, and wear his oppanont down i.e Murray fight.

Still has potential but needs to knuckle down now

I was just thinking the exact same, he seems a bit more comfortable at lightweight; the ones that knuckle down to the weight are big and strong and mean business, Kevin can box for fun and hits really hard on the counter but can't move forward punching v bigger men.
