Manny Pacquiao vs Amir Khan
Manny Pacquiao vs Amir Khan
It doesn't seem so ridiculous now to think they could have a fight next year? If Khan comes through in style on Saturday (which he should), Roach has already said that Manny should have an easier fight next and I think they would see this as an easier fight.
Khan would love to fight Manny and now there is no real reason not to do it other than different promoters. Khan fancies his chances and I bet he will think his stock will rise a great deal even if he loses plus the money he will get from it.
I'd love to see it personally, they both come to fight.
No doubt I'll get slated for putting this up...........

Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Amir Khan
It's amazing how someones stock can fall so low after a defeat.
For me there are still very few fighters around welterweight that have a chance against Manny and Khan definitely isn't one of them.
The Marquez fight was really competitive before that shot and we are talking leagues above Khan at the moment. Amir needs to rebuild pretty slowly and any talk of fighting the elite should stop, he will really struggle to come back from a third heavy defeat

Not slated mate, but fvck me do you not like Amir or something? Think back to the Danny Garcia fight. Then back to Saturday.
This would be a very painful night for Khan. Those straight lefts that Marquez came back from wouldn't do the kiddie any good at all.

Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Amir Khan
If the fight would sell big they'd make it. That's all that matters to the guys pulling the strings and talking in ears.

I just think it would be a good fight to watch. I'm not Khan's manager or promoter, and if I was I wouldnt want it to happen. I'm just a boxing fan and you have to admit, you would like to see it? And surely it could happen now? I think Roach would love to see Khan Ko'd by Manny and I reckon Khan would fancy his chances againts Manny so, this thread is more about not what I want but more about, it could happen now and doesn't seem such a stupid fight to make.

I think it seems pretty ridiculous but if there's money in it I'm sure it could get made. I'd rather watch Pac - Marquez V though.

Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Amir Khan
Khan's chin is suspect at 140, so going up against one of the most powerful 147lbers would not be a wise move for Khan.
I'd like to see if he has improved his defence as he keeps telling us; plus I'd like to see if he can mix it at elite level at welterweight before any talk of a Pacquiao fight.

Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Amir Khan
Definately agree with that, he is simply not good enough at the moment
Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Amir Khan
Hate to say this but I actually think Khan Marquez could be a good fight for amir. No doubt he would be the quicker man of foot and punch, and if Hunter can make amir a defensive backfoot fighter he could give marquez the run around to a points win. However, if amir wants to continue with his tigger like bouncy in bouncy out approach then its only a matter of time before marquez catches him on the way in, just like garcia did before him.
Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Amir Khan
I would love to see Pacman make Amir do the funky chicken get this fight made pronto.
Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Amir Khan
It didn't take Garcia long to start timing Khan on the way in, he didn't even wait for Khan to slow down. Marquez would have a field day - easy fightWales wrote:Hate to say this but I actually think Khan Marquez could be a good fight for amir. Of course Hunter might be able to change his style but lets wait and see. I'd fancy JMM will have sailed off into the sunset long before Amir stops jumping in with his chin up high.
Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Amir Khan
I think we are assuming Pacquiao is just going to dust himself off and fight like normal after that. What happend Saturday is a hard to fight off psychologically as well as physically - he could end up gun shy upon his return, doubting his once fabled punch resistance - and thats not talking about the physical effects such a crunching KO could have on his abilities (and also not taking into account what impact it might have on their opponents confidence levels).
Two weeks before we saw a "bottler" like Senchenko show no fear in an intimidating atmosphere (first time he had fought abroad) and take the shot and eventually KO Ricky Hatton. I am sure if Hatton just had 3 years out without the last image of him in a boxing him was him lifeless then Senchenko might not have fought with such bottle and confidence.
Pacquiao might not be the same fighter again, well he won't be the same fighter again - he might even have a marked deterioriation. Lennox Lewis wasn't the same fighter when he got KO'd.... he ironed out flaws, got in better shape physically and was at an age and experience level where he could improve... Can't see Manny learning from this defeat - only possibly going more gunshy.

Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Amir Khan
I think Khan is all wrong for Marquez. Too big, to greater reach and he wouldn't take any chances against someone of Marquez's level. Amir is complacent and often fearless, they are his downfalls. If he boxed well, at range, Marquez would stand little chance, imo. Marquez said in the past that he doesn't want to be a stepping stone for Khan.Wales wrote:Hate to say this but I actually think Khan Marquez could be a good fight for amir. even Mayweather (but only because he is getting on abit & been in jail etc)
im not for one minute saying he is the best in the world... far from it.... to inconsistant
Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Amir Khan
Exciting though he is, he doesn't have the power or the brain to 'beat anyone'.
I can't get my head around people picking him over Marquez, like speed is all you need? You did all see Khan v Garcia didn't you? The best fighter that Khan has boxed successfully on the back foot against was Kotelnik a few years ago.
As much as I rate Kotelnik, he is miles away from Marquez and Khan is starting to show he can't keep to this gameplan for 12 rounds - be it stamina or just brain farts

Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Amir Khan
Marquez isn't brilliant at cutting the ring off, he can be awfully flat footed at times...
But he'd still be way too good for Khan, who's only real attribute is speed.
His ring IQ is off the chart - in the wrong direction - and his footwork and defence are brutally bad. He could quite easily manoevre himself into harm's way, similar to how he did against Lamont ''The Diesel Tractor'' Peterson.
Marquez would only have to hit him with a couple of right hands or uppercuts to really discourage him. The only punch in his arsenal that isn't brilliant is the jab. His right hand is laser guided, can be thrown long, short, looping or straight.... uppercuts with both hands, top left hook, can throw good right hooks too.
Flurrying with countless straight lefts and rights ain't going to do sh1t.

You talk like it's an outrageous assumption, but Nacho Beristain picked him:Lenny wrote:I can't get my head around people picking him over Marquez
"They want to match him with Khan but I told [Marquez] that's not a fight to take lightly," Beristain told La Jornada.
"I think it's better to get another opponent. He should not be exploited again. Juan Manuel deserves to retire like a true champion and not as someone's stepping stone."
Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Amir Khan
Plus youre asking if we saw the Danny Garcia fight. Yep saw that, and as i mentioned in my post beating marquez is all down to hunter changing Khans style form bounce in bounce out to fighting on the backfoot - no doubt if khan hasnt changed his style marquez would time him perfectly. but if Hunter has done what he says hes going to do then dont expect khan to be a come forward gung ho fighter anymore.JDC wrote:You talk like it's an outrageous assumption, but Nacho Beristain picked him:Lenny wrote:I can't get my head around people picking him over Marquez

It's like a motherfucking shotgun, mate. & (along with those bodyshots) stopped Pac-Man working at his favourite range, thus making him jump in wildly which he is now a touch too slow to do.

DINAMITA!!!!

I think Khan would fight at distance like he did vs Barrerra (tainted though that fight was). He shipped far too many punches against Maidana and Paulie, and survived, giving him the complacent attitude he showed vs Garcia. Against Barrerra and Kotelnik he went back to basics and thrived at distance. A fight with Marquez would be by far his biggest, most significant and challenging. This is why I think he'd know that there is no room for error. A flawless Khan would be almost impossible for Marquez, and that's why I can't see him taking the fight.
In all honesty I'd see it as a 50/50 fight, but Marquez would be relying on mistakes. We've become accustom to Khan making mistakes, but they seem to occur when his head starts getting lodged up his arse. After his most recent humbling, in what would be his most high profile fight, going in as underdog, I could see Amir thriving.
It's a no win scenario for JMM right now, in any case.

Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Amir Khan
I actually have a feeling that Team Pac might go after Khan to be his sacrificial lamb before getting either of the big ones (JMM V or Mayweather).
Khan would be stupid enough to want it because he probably did ok with the headgear & vest on but something tells me Virgil Hunter would probably try to avoid that one, because Amir would get Hattoned, maybe even worse.
