Some crap journeyman is it? His WBC Silver title couldn't be less prestigious, could it?
Still no opponent names for James DeGale on the 26th.

For somebody bragging how he's going to be winning a world title soon, it strikes me that James DeGale's fight is just over a fortnight away, and he has yet to name an opponent.

Sign of the times?...Even some 'world' champions seem to struggle to find opposition these days (e.g. Ricky Burns).ILikeBeer wrote:For somebody bragging how he's going to be winning a world title soon, it strikes me that James DeGale's fight is just over a fortnight away, and he has yet to name an opponent.

You can't blame Degale, surely it's Mick Hennessey who should be critisized? I'm sure it'll be some European that we've never heard of, the main thing is Degale is kept busy so when a decent opponent is found he'll be sharp.
Re: Still no opponent names for James DeGale on the 26th.
Has this card ever been confirmed? I know it's listed on the BoxRec schedule, but don't remember ever seeing a Hennessey press release about it (they're usually posted here)..

I'm sure DeGale would've fought Johnson if offered it.hitman_hatton1 wrote:whatever the opponent least he won't be dragged out of retirement like groves last opponent.

It's an odd one. It's been listen on boxrec since before DeGale's last fight. Whilst he was EBU Champion, there was even an opponent named. Yet when they spoke to Meaty Mick after DeGale's win over Fulgencio Zuniga, he spoke as if he was trying to finalise dates. (This is when boxrec already had him listed as fighting against a named opponent.) Then DeGale vacated the belt, and the entry was changed to a WBC Silver title defence against TBA.
Actually, looking now, it looks like boxrec have removed the scheduled fight altogether. So I guess it's not happening at all.

Yet that shell of Johnson is still a better opponent than the bulk of Degale's resume.hitman_hatton1 wrote:whatever the opponent least he won't be dragged out of retirement like groves last opponent.

I read this comment, before I read who had posted it. Now I see it's DeGale's Biggest Fan, I think I barely need to point out what a ridiculous statement it is.hitman_hatton1 wrote:whatever the opponent least he won't be dragged out of retirement like groves last opponent.

Accurate though. I like Groves though I did go off him considerably when that picture was posted of him holding the Lonsdale belt above a bin. Appalling stuff.ILikeBeer wrote:I read this comment, before I read who had posted it. Yeah, thinking about it, I genuinely DO blame George Groves.

Re: Still no opponent names for James DeGale on the 26th.
Well, he'd officially retired after a fight, then changed his mind. I grant you that he had technically said the words; "I retire".hitman_hatton1 wrote: so johnson wasn't in retirement.
We both know that wasn't the point you were making. It was another attempt at belittling Groves, just because he's a rival to your boyfriend DeGale. If DeGale had fought Johnson in the Excel Arena, you'd have been harping on that he was fighting a former world champion in a massive arena.
You don't have to diss Groves at every opportunity just because he beat DeGale. That's just

I look forward to more of your unbiased expertise next time George Groves fights.

I'm appalled that anyone would be appalled by that. Are you a Daily Mail reader? Were you appalled when Bowe did it?dondada wrote:Accurate though. It's obvious he did it to show that he'd rather chuck it in the bin than give it to 'Don't call me' Ken Anderson

Re: Still no opponent names for James DeGale on the 26th.
I'm a telegraph reader and i was appalled. No way to treat such a prestigious title (the londsdale itself, rather than the smw version per se). How many hard working pros out there with no hope of saying getting past area level would give their left ball for a chance to fight for it.
And that from someone who was firmly in groves side when he fought degale, and is a massive fan of haye. Just a bit classless and unnecessary. Still hope george gets a world title and gets a chance to beat degale again, preferrably more conclusively next time.

If he'd smashed it to hits with a hammer you may have had a point but it was a gesture aimed at an individual which in no way in my mind besmirches any past or future holders (bar one) of it or their achievements.
I can live with the image of it hovering over a dustbin
