Any news on the rest of the HW Prizefighters?

Post by oliverfennell »

So the international tournament was announced with four names right off the bat, and then... nothing.

We're now less than 3 weeks away, so why no news since? Surely there would be plenty of veterans, prospects and mid-carders who'd jump at the opportunity, but with less than 3 weeks to train and to factor in travel as well, we might not be looking at a very good field.

Has anybody heard any other rumoured names?

We're going but to be honest I think Hearn might have one or two slightly bigger headaches at the moment.......

Albert Sosnowski and Timo Hoffmann are in, in addition to the original 4 of Audley, Rogan, Lewison and Travis Walker.

Looking a poor line-up so far, all 6 guys so far aged over 30. Need a couple of promising young fighters now.

I think Sprott is meant to be fighting Helenius in March, possibly for the European title.

I don't think he will be in this Prizefighter.

I'd wager your knowledge of him is based solely on this?

I'd like to see Towers and Browne as the final 2 guys. I can't see why they would turn it down.

theres other footage around such as ezequiel zarate who Vidondo cut to pieces.

also ireneu costa junior would be good in prizefighter as well

they dont neccessarily have to be the usual suspects.

The standard of boxing in South America at the higher weights is pretty poor. The guys who clean up domestically over there struggle when they fight against semi-notable European fighters.

Eg. Fabio Moli is 43 years old and still considered #1 in South America at HW, yet in his "prime" he was stopped by Bidenko and Skelton, and was beaten 3 times in 4 years (2 stoppages) by a past-it Marcelo Dominguez.

Although having said that, someone like Vidondo or Costa Jr would stand a moderate chance against Rogan, Lewison and shot Audley. Not against Walker though.

Claus Bertino has been added to the line-up, 32 year old Dane who is 15-4 and has lost to some complete unknowns.

I have heard from several people in the know that Skelton will be the final name on the list though this hasn't been confirmed yet.

This is looking pretty poor overall. Travis Walker's to lose.

It's pretty poor and I have to feel it was rushed by Matchroom. 5 guys from or based in the British Isles doesn't really feel "international".

Having said that, the Prizefighters which lack name/quality appeal sometimes turn out to be the most entertaining.

Looking at Bertino, he might not be that bad. He's beaten moderate Euro level opposition in Vidoz and Nielsen, and has been in Bigger's Better, so the format isn't new to him.

It does somewhat pain me to say this, but Kimbo Slice would bring in some real interest to the next prize fighter, and with a 32k carrot I think he'd be game.

I probably wont watch this upcoming one, but would if he was in it.

Don't see Walker winning it, hell of a dig but poor stamina and will struggle to get through all 3 bouts .

Vidoz was shot by the time they fought and Nielsen's record was horribly padded, he was never any good.

Paul Butlin has been named as a reserve, gives you some idea of how little effort Matchroom have been putting into this.

Face it. Guys any good don't want to risk their records on a fluke loss and most of the rest are too "unambitious" to train. I recall an oldtime US trainer complaining back in the 80s that all heavyweights are headcases and he wouldn't waste his time with them.

I've lost interest in Prizefighter recently and this line up isn't changing that.

Looking forward to seeing Travis Walker in this. He's one of my favourite active fighters. Big punch and delicate chin - always fun to watch.

Probably between Rogan and Audley if they are in shape. They like the format. Timo is awful and basically retired. He will be there for a last pay cheque.

Rogan has had a recent warm up four rounder (smart move)...id like a last hurrah for him

lords knows what Audley's gonna do..but he might just nick it

Walker seems ideal for this tournament. should be fireworks

bertino seems a plodder

hoffman ive never seen and dont want to

lewison looked ok against Darch but needs massive improvement...this is surely the kind of motivational test he needs. excellent style for this tourny

derek rossy..will probably come in very fat

sosnowski is ok but needs to regain some kind of form to win this.
