Will Tyson Fury vs. Steve Cunningham be on Channel 5?????

Post by PokerRob »

With Tyson Fury set to make his American debut on April 20th in Madison Square Garden, I was wondering if anyone knew if this fight would be broadcast live on Channel 5.

Doubt it, CH5 have invested wisely in Fury and with a big marketing campaign it'll be on at 3am start on 5 hopefully!

Have noticed that Steve Cunningham has only had 2 fights at Heavyweight, one of which he lost, is 11 years older than Fury and 6" shorter. Stern test for the fighting man or just very cautious matchmaking? :o

Channel 5 has to show it live it wouldnt make sense after all the airtime they've given Fury previously.

Cunningham is 6' 3", so he isn't a short heavyweight.

Most people thought Cunningham deserved the decision against Adamek, so Cunningham is arguably a top 10 ranked heavyweight.

I think it is a good opponent for Fury.

I think it's a good American debut, but you Can't blame people for not liking him, his got a big mouth and shows zero respect for other boxers !
I think he will be better once he gets put in his place in the ring, abit like degale :TU:

fury is doing the right thing developing his skills by fighting different types of opponent who pose a test but aren't too much of a danger which Price is to anyone with that right hand, a light footed ex cruiserweight will be good for him.

I think it is a decent match, but where Fury makes himself look silly is when he criticises Prices opponents for being old/shit then bags himself a bulked up 36 year old crusierweight.

Be fair you cannot compare Prices last opponent Matt Skelton to Steve Cunningham.

Cunningham is at least 10-15 years younger than Skelton and has never been stopped and many thought he beat former Champ Adamek he is clearly a much tougher opponent than Price has ever fought.

Cunningham is a CW not a natural HW. If Fury cant beat him, he might as well stop dreaming about the HW crown.

I agree but it is the sort of Fight he needs for learning and exposure. Obv they are not trying to get him beat but it is a good test, I think it is good matchmaking by HS

To be fair, the original comment has some merit.

Cunningham might not be short, but he is a lot shorter than Fury (how this prepares him for a fight with Price or Klitschko I don't know).

Also, Adamek is shorter than Cunningham and spent most of his life as a light heavy before moving up through the weights. Again, how this prepares Fury for the modern day monsters I don't know.

Not a great match, but not crap either. Just what you would expect - get him a "name-ish" opponent who he can beat and look good to the yanks.

If Fury is as bad as some on here think, Cunningham will be beat him. I dont think he is. Its a good match, better IMO than the Price-Thompson fight.
