F**K The BBBofC

Post by RonnieTheSharkClark »

Why do they take so much money off us fighters?! £100 to them each year for what? Then we are nearly £600 each year for a medical?! Medical is good if ur fighting like every month but 4 fights in a year and they wanna scan my brain again!!! Maybe everyone gonna stand up and wait see what happens when The Luxemburg Board cause an upset again soon!!!!!!!

With all these outbursts you post on various Internet forums & social media sites I find myself asking, do you actually feel happy being a professional boxer.

Most young lads early in their career are competing in the pro's for a love of the sport. If you don't have that love for the sport how can you possibly give your utmost in your training sessions and fights?

I feel Ronnie that maybe it's time you had a wee sit down with yourself & a look in the mirror and ask yourself what you really want from life? I mean you've got a Scottish Area title match against Michael Stupart coming up. You're probably not happy about that because he's not 20-0. You are constantly very harsh in your criticism of young prospects fighting glorified punchbags to gain an understanding of the professional ranks instead of being matched against other 'prospects' as you so much desire.

Maybe pro boxing's not for you Ronald ?

Although I dont agree with some of what Ronnie has said regarding brain scan I do see his point regarding making a living outside of boxing in other ring sports. The comments regarding his outbursts, shows a bit of passion and someone who wants to succeed. In france they are allowed to compete in other ring sports and to my knowledge its only BBBoC who dont allow it:) As far as prospects punching lumps out of people to learn the sport my knowledge in boxing may not be of what alot on here is but thats pretty brutal and maybe thats ronnie's problem he sells out home shows and wants to let his fans see him tested:)

It may shock people but same as Jamie I agree with the Brain Scans and yearly medicals fighters safety should be the main concern in boxing.. I think the board don't allow other ring sport activity and this would probably lower the amount of shows they have then decreasing there revenue.. I think if someone's a boxer that's where they should focus in an ideal world.. In saying that its a business in Boxing money talks.. Too many fighters protected too many boring fights where you know all results before you go to the shows.. It's a very frustrating sport I believe the one thing the board should do to make it more interesting is make prospects fight prospects.. Less Journeymen fights they make they make the most money in boxing and do not improve boxing very much.. Journeymen will always have there place but if you have had 5 fights I believe at least 3 of these should be evenly matched..

David, I think the problem with the latter part of your post & to prove it has no real validity is that fact your brother is fighting & I stand corrected for a British Masters Bronze title rather than a Scottish Area one against a journeyman in Michael Stupart. Which is laughable to say the least.

Journeymen in boxing are a necessity in my eyes. It's all good & well being able to shift 80 tickets to a home show as a home-fighter, but the fans coming to watch you want to see you beating someone. Boxing after all is a business. What I don't necessarily agree with is the Lithuanian, Latvian journeymen coming over here looking for a quick payday & falling over at the slightest opportunity. Journeymen such as James Tucker & Johnny Greaves are there to test out our future champions. They're there to give these young prospects rounds & to let them hone their skills they have learned in the gym. For a journeyman, survival is key. It's a quick turnaround route to go down as a fighter and being reliable to KOs isn't going to help with medical suspensions etc. A proper journeyman should be able to answer questions of the young lads they fight against, but they know what they're there for. I would say probably if you look at the lads who have the big 60 losses etc against their names, probably atleast 10 could've gone their way but because of their chosen path within this sport the officials score it against them.

Ronnie I feel needs to learn that boxing isn't kickboxing. A loss in kickboxing or muay thai whatever he competed in isn't as detrimental to a fighters career as in boxing. The amateurs is where our professional's have had hundreds of fights, not in the pro game.

I know, u know and the whole world knows that one day these people will have to fight me ;) No Scottish Manager would be silly enough to put there prospect in with me for 10 rounds to be cut short ;) FACT!!!

Is the sparring trips to Aberdeen and the fight camp in Spain not training hard/making sacrifices Ronnie?

There could be a lot of factors as to why you're not getting the fights you desire Ronnie.

Right here's the thing. Ronnie is clearly a good boxer and got balls to fight anyone. He is a pro boxer. That's his job. I am sure 75% of people would rant about hating their jobs. But this is what he's good at. By the sounds of things the lad just wants to be the best and fight the best. This is a boxing forum and he's talking about boxing. Does he love the sport probs not but its money in his pocket when he fights and the better the opponent the more money so u would want to box all the prospects if it was meaning more money for my family.

I think (and i cannot be 100 percent with this as ive yet to see ronnie box) but if hes as good as he may be from reading this forum then its hardly a surprise that its harder to get the bigger fights , a boxer is a promotors investment , i wouldnt want to see my investment go down the pan by putting him in with someone i wasnt confident of him beating unless there was good reason (title eliminators etc)

I understand it must be frustrating but its basically the politics of the sport , all you can do is keep beating what is put in front of you and eventually the board would open purse bids for a title fight or something , once youve got a title then everyone will be wanting a shot at you .

Stick with it Ronnie , all good things come to those who wait

I don't think it's as detrimental in boxing as everyone thinks.. Ricky Burns has 2 defeats the Mexicans Tend to get matched hard and come through with defeats.. I see what your saying but I'm fairness to Michael Stupart everyone I'm Scotland was challenged for the area title only person willing to fight Ronnie was John Simpson but not for a Scottish Title... This title has been put in out of necessity as the the other title would not be sanctioned... Again in boxing its not what you know it's how many penny's you may put someone's way... I can understand Ronnie's frustration because he's ready to move up and fight for titles...He has sold in the region of 300-400 tickets for this show in Dundee... I have been to everyone of Ronnie's pro fights and he has learned the most from the 2 draws against Maxi Hughes and Ryan Walsh.. Both fights he fought on 2 days notice and this seems to be the only way he is going to get a fair crack at the whip being offered fights at a couple of days notice away from home... How does that help a fighters career? In reality he won both fights and should be 8-0 but he is 6-0-2? People are losing interest in boxing because a lot of fights its stacked 100% in the home fighters favour.. I'm sure both Maxi Hughes and Ryan Walsh will both say they learned more from fighting Ronnie than they did fight in all of their previous fights.

David,

Ronnie has had 8 fights, his opponents to date have had a combined record of 40-157-8 between them. Ricky didn't fight an opponent with a positive record until he fought Jeff Thomas on his 8th or 9th fight. IMO this is where good managers earn their bread & butter. If you study through Ricky's record, he's been handled very intelligently. After the defeats to Alex Arthur & Johanneson, Ricky was brought along steadily making gradual adjustments to his game with every fight against opponents who were just there to give him rounds and for Ricky to progress. I think between the Johanneson fight and the Akaba fight Ricky only lost something like 1 round & I'd be lying if I could tell you who to (I'd imagine Al Hamidi or Odamattey).

You can't knock Ronnie for taking those two fights on two days notice, the man has no fear of stepping in between the ropes with anyone who is put before him. But all this 'prospects' fighting 'prospects' dribble has become boring. Ronnie and yourself need to understand that boxing is a sport.

Ronnie is Tony Lindie's main asset at the moment. Followed secondly probably by John McCallum. Hence the reasons his shows will always be based in either Dundee or Edinburgh. Where his two biggest cash-cows are. If Ronnie had been beaten by either Maxi Hughes or Walsh - unless he has a very hardcore fanbase, I wouldn't think figures of 400 fans would be floating around.

And in respect of your Mexican fighters statement. I think, and this is a controversial statement to make, the North American fighters and the level of journeymen/sparring they have on offer to them far over-shadows anything on these shores.

Following Rickys defeat by CJ alex morrison knew when Ricky changed coaches hed need fights quickly to put into practice what he was learning in the gym,if i remember right Ricky had 5 fights in 12 weeks (approx) and imo this helped massively in his development irrespective of who he was fighting

MachoMan09 wrote:Ronnie, it doesn't matter what 'fighting sport' you participate in, the only fighters genuinely making a living solely from the sport(s) are the ones who are seriously popular with the fans and a few who aren't who are prepared to get beaten up on a regular basis.

If you don't qualify as either of the above, at best the sport will supplement your income. It's more likely, when you factor in all costs, including hours spent training, that the sport is a profession that loses money (if you place an hourly rate on your time).

A lot of guys don't want to admit the above to themselves.

I don't necessarily agree with the BBBofC policy of disallowing licence holders from fighting away from their shows but it's up to them to set their rules as they see fit; and up to those considering taking our or renewing their licence to see if the BBBofC rules are a good fit for them.

Always bear in mind when considering fighting on other types of show etc, that if you buy something for a pound and sell it for 99p, it doesn't matter if you sell one or one million you'll always lose money, and you'll lose more the more you sell. There's also a limited market for anything, and you might struggle to even get 99p if you flood the market with your wares, losing even more money in the process.

About sums it up mate Very good post
