Im new too, but for stamina do Road Work
A.Jog 5 Mins
B.Then sprint 30-60seconds
C.Then jog for 1-2 mins
Repeat B and C in succession for as many "rounds" as you would like to box in, that means if you cant make four repetitions you wont have the energy it takes to box for four rounds

Please remember im no expert, but I trained in martial arts for 15 years and it's worked when I was doing it.....Of course im out of shape now though :D

Getting Fit

Post by Zafiki »

For me the best thing is consistently going down to the gym and pushing myself as hard as I can. Road work helps a lot. I try to work out 6 days a week, 3 or 4 at the gym and whenever I'm not at the gym I do road work, except Sundays.

I train at the boxing gym M,T,Th, F. I do between 2-4 rounds on each piece of equip, skip rope, stretch, shadow box,double-end,heavy bag, speedbag. Some days I add Mitts and sparring depends on how close to fight.

Next is wieght traing, 3 times a week, M-chest and tris, W-back and bi's,F-legs and shoulders.

lastly conditioning, 3 days a week. first 2 weeks should be distance runs, 2-3 miles. 3rd and 4th week 2 days distance 1 day sprints. 5th and 6th week 2 days sprints 1 day distance. This is a six week schedule heading into a fight.

*Realy important to strengthen neck and ab muscles. The Nevada Athletic Commission has a great book out called "Ringside And Training Principles".

Good Luck to you and be safe

if your just starting out, shadow boxing is great of course all you need is a mirror..I like pretending there is an oppenent in front of me..and then of course if you have access to a heavy bag it's a must for all boxers. be sure to wrap your hands and wear gloves..as far as road work I'm a heavy but I try running 3 miles twice a week and shoot for 18 min. with sprints in between..then when you think your ready head to a gym, you can find one on boxinggyms.com in your area. and take some lessons first. pad work is the best and will have you gasping for air in a minute or so.

hello there i normally jog about 2 miles everyday altogether doing short burst of sprints maybe for 1 minute then jog for 1 minute and again doing a short burst of sprint cause boxing is a different sort of fitness while sports like soccer u have longer endurance u carry on jogging for 45 minutes be4 having a rest wen boxing is a short burst of endurance but at a higher pace so u have 2 train accordingley 2 last 3 minutes at a high pace without slowing down. it's like u might jog 15 minutes ur not really nackered but try running 3 minutes at ur highest pace and that's wat boxing endurance is.

so i jog for 1 minute then sprint for 2 minutes then jog again for 1 minute so my heart rate is going down again. i do this altogether for 30 minutes -45minutes. punchbag is brilliant 4 boxing endurance hit the punchbag for 3 minutes not hard but rather fast nonstop then have a minue rest and do this for 4-6 rounds. shadow boxing aint really 4 endurance that's just 2 see u in the mirror and 2 practice punching while seeing urself covering up and 2 see if ur stance is straight just the normal boxing basics. oh and drink alot of water.

Get in the ring and spar, it will tell you everything you need to know.
Legs heavy after a minute, do more road work,
Arms heavy, do more bag work,
Can`t hit nothing …more pads ,,and sadly more sparing..
It ain`t easy..but practice does make …not perfect, but does make it easier.
Good luck..you will enjoy it.

here is a training tip or two.

wake up in the morning and do your cardio. notice i said cardio, not just running. running on the pavement, black top, hard surface will beat your body and joints up. get on an eliptical trainer. same workout as running without the joint wear and tear. then do it in intervals of three minutes hard and 1 minute easy. that will get you body used to the 3/1 round to rest ratio of a boxing match.

lift weights. not like a power lifter or a bodybuilder, but you need to lift in order to develope the explosive power. stretch.
