Riddick Bowe UK tour

Post by Adamj1987 »

I've read he's doing dinner shows in the uk in july. Does anyone know where he will be visiting from what i've read it says london and open to other bookings.

Tyson, hagler, bruno, rjj and SRL have all come to blackpool and i'd love to meet riddick and hope he comes near me.

Has anybody got any more info?

I don't like photos like that because I don't like cowards. Some weak pudendum has spied Riddick and rather than approach him and say something like "Hey, Mr Bowe, your trilogy with Evander ranks as some of the best sport in the four and half billion year history of the planet, I'm glad to meet you. Any chance of a photo, please?"; he's thought: "Ha. That's Riddick Bowe. Look at the dumb eff, he's squandered millions and is on the bones of his ass pimping his signature. I wonder if I can cash in by taking a clandestine photograph so other spineless twats can mock from afar."

That`s a bit harsh. I was only taking a photo of my Indian mate and his son. I didn`t know big Daddy was sat in the background.

Absolutely agree with every word here.

Bowe was an awesome fighter. For any boxing fan to revel in his downfall is pretty sickening, particularly in the familiar cyber coward style.

A very sad photo. He doesn't look in terrible shape at least although I know he doesn't speak well.

So so sad looking at that picture especially when you think back to his heyday and when he was on top of the world back in 1992 as a 25 year old having beaten Holyfield for the world title. He was a household name through endorsements, chat show appearances, his own video game and his manager Rock Newman had negotiated a 6 fight deal with Time Warner and Caesars which had the potential of earning Bowe over $100 million dollars.

However rather than improve on his skills and have a prolonged reign at the top which would have earned him a MASSIVE payday against a returning Tyson, Newman sent him on a world tour that included visiting Nelson Mandela in South Africa, touring the sad sites of Somalia and breaking bread with Pope John Paul II in Rome. This saw Bowe being out of training for FIVE months at one point and that coupled with his fabled poor eating habits and notoriously lazy attitude saw him enter training camp for his rematch with a motivated Holyfield 3 stone overweight and he lost his titles in a narrow decision loss.

He did beat Holyfield 2 years later in a rematch but his dedication outside the ring was always a concern and those two brutal wars with Golota saw him done as a top line Heavy at 30. Quitting the Marines after 3 days of training and then a number of run ins with the law with allegations of beating his sister and kidnapping his estranged wife and kids after the breakdown of his marriage. In the case that followed he served 17 months in Jail despite his defense pleading for a lenient sentence due to brain damage he suffered due to his boxing career...and after all that he still had 3 more fights.

Shows how in boxing you need the passion and the lifestyle to have longevity.

I always felt that the Bowe that beat Holy would have beaten any version of Lewis, but we only ever saw it once. Whilst Lewis was able to sustain a long, successful career.

I just hope he ends up well in his life
