This infuriates me about mainstream "sports journalists"

So Des Kelly, a "sports journalist" in a major national newspaper, writes an opinion column on a Saturday (link here http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/articl ... Kelly.html )

In the main body if his column he's talking about ANOTHER alleged racist incident in football. Then at the bottom he gives his tuppence worth on a couple of boxing stories (Bellew, Guerrero) and sarcastically concludes it with "stay classy, boxing".

The man clearly hasn't bothered to study the detail of either story before making comment, and instead seems to have picked out a couple of headlines and used them as a stick to beat boxing with. He calls himself a "sports journalist", yet snobbishly sneers at a sport he may not like.

With prominent columnists making comments like these in widely-distributed nationals, no wonder people get turned off the sport. And they're only being given a fraction of the full story. Not even a mention of what a great fight it could be, or the dedication & professionalism of the contestants (and those on the undercard).

The saving grace is that it's a sell-out at the Echo, and it should be a good show on Sky Sports. But seeing half-arsed journalism like this really p!sses me off.

The Daily Mail seems to only care about football and cricket, though they became experts on MotoGP a couple of years ago when there was a death and I think Hayes brawl with Chisora got a lot of attention.

Most 'sports journalists/writers' are only usually interested in the big sports and even then football is king with most of them.

Kelly is the worst. Littlejohn doesn't pretend to be anything else, as far as I know.

Be refreshing to see them simply reporting on proceedings instead of throwing their opinion about willy nilly as if it matters. "Chief" sports journos are usually the worst. Martin Samuel is a cock, so is that bald Patrick Stewart lookalike who acts like he taught Mourinho and Ferguson the art of football management in between giving Clive Woodward ideas in how to win the World Cup.

Aren't you dissmissing them in the same way that Kelly dissmissed boxing with his articles. All journalist are the same, they have to decide who is their readership and what stance they will take. Hopefully, whether you agree with them or not, they take a stance on principal and not just for headlines. Most journalists have an agenda, it's just that you are less likely to see that agenda if you like the journalist or agree with the main premise of his arguments or debates / point of view.

Jeff Powell's piece on the other hand (look who I know, arent I great) was abysmal.
