Roach and Arthur

Post by Dynamite Dean Phillips »

People keep asking why Roach wasn't in his corner.

Just a thought, but maybe Roach doesn't think Arthur is worth the trip over.

Any thoughts?

ARTHUR: If you will not show up for the fight, we shall take your castle by force!

FREDDIE ROACH: You don't frighten us, English pig-dogs! Go and boil your bottom, sons of a silly person! I blow my nose at you, so-called Arthur King, you and all your silly English k-nnnnniggets. Thpppppt! Thppt! Thppt!

I seem to remember someone else making the following point and I agree with him - Roach is a very busy man with many top class fighters on his hands. Why would he cross the Atlantic to be in Arthur's corner? If AA wants Roach so badly, I think it is he who will have to up sticks.

its monty python fellas.
"i fart in your general direction"

To me its another example of Arthur's rather inflated opinion of himself.
Think Glenn Mcrory had it right when he said Arthur should go over there full time or get a new trainer.

I cannot imagine that Roach is going to lose too much sleep over Arthur, when he has so much else going on.

It's obvious Arthur is a very small fish in a big pond over there, which is probably a good thing.
Roach has guys like PacMan, Toney and Tyson and is obviously not too interested in Arthur at the moment.
Sounds like he's getting great sparring though, but he really needs a permanent trainer.
Audley has things sorted in this respect, maybe Alex should give him a call.

exactly so Arthur should stop messing about and decide what he wants.
Either go over and sign with one of the most respected trainers around or cut his losses and be happy with who he has.
I know its not easy with family and all but its not an easy sport is it?
And making the most of your talent in anything is usually requiring many sacrifices and a lot of input.

Now, go away, or I shall taunt you a second time-a!

Arthur should go with someone like Chris Aston or Oliver Harrison: a young, ambitious trainer with a proven track record. What's the point of flying halfway around the world to spar someone like Bernard Dunne!

Ah, he's still from the UK - close enough for humor's (and Freddie Roach's) sake.

I love how you silly english types-ah like to claim the Welsh, Irish and Scots as your own when they do something good, but when they screw up it's "that bloody Welsh tosser" and the like.

I remember watching an interview with actor Peter O'Toole once, where he said that whenever he won some award or did something postiive on the world stage the British papers would use headlines like "English Thespian O'Toole Wins Oscar!", but if he got into trouble drinking and carousing (both of which he was very fond of - typical Mick ;)), the headline would invariably be along the lines of "Irish Actor O'Toole Arresetd In Pub Brawl!!!"
