Jeff Smith was a terrific fighter, far better than many other fighters who have been inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Jeff Smith is one of the greatest examples of unrealized potential I can think of. Smith could box as well as anyone, he could punch, and he was incredibly durable. On his good nights Smith was as good as anyone in the sport. However he was incredibly inconsistent and very often was overly focused on defense and covering up. He lost a lot of fights like this. Im as big a Smith fan as anyone alive today but Im not sure he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. Id have to think real hard on that.
