mcdonnell v stuart hall (who fights on the IBF title show's undercard) was one of the very best domestic/european fights i've ever seen. punishing and quality in terms of skill, a desprate struggle for all of the 12 rds. that fight well deserved fight of the year honours, that year, but didn't get the recognition.

He's weird. Like Danny Garcia, he does some technical things brilliantly & then goes & does something straight after that makes you go "WHAAAAT? Has no-one ever shown you how to do that before?"

He's average height for a bantam (or what used to be average height before they all became super-feathers drying out to feck). No head movement, bit too stand-up for his own good. All the Spanish-language commentators go "Muy intelligente" whenever he's fighting, but I don't see it meself. I think he's deliberate & one-paced rather than genuinely clever at setting things up, meself. I can see him being outhustled or outslicked by someone genuinely world-class.

Can definitely fvcking hit though.

Oddly enough, he reminds me a bit of Carlos "Bollilo" Gonzalez, but for the life of me I can't understand why.

He was on some of those Cinturon de Oro cards a few years back, hard to tell how good he might be as he was blowing green kids out in one round.

No, I will blame Sky, as they've been showing comparatively f**ck all since the Hearn deal. At least allegedly have been showing some great stuff recently, so get a pass when they occasionally miss one.

He reminds me a little of Ruben Olivares, both facially and stylistically, obviously a lot rawer and a touch less fluid and more static but the way he holds his feet, bounces and throws those wide hooks from both hands.

No excuse, they could easily switch coverage and schedule fights accordingly. Or even slight delay. Never mind, I've given up on the useless bums now.


The Mexican looks heavy handed alright, but seems a bit static and his head is held right up in air as he piles in - doesn't seem too bothered about any hard counters coming back at him.

And his record looks very padded for your usual hard core Mexican prospect.....maybe not as good as the record looks.

I doubt he's getting paid a hell of a lot is he ? So you'd think the Mexican camp are fairly confident about letting him come over here. Or just thinking it's sink or swim time..

Fair play to Dennis Hobson by putting together a big venue and PPV together for his fighter.

Personally I cannot see it as a TV money-spinner, especially going against Ricky Burns.

But sometimes it's not about big profits, it's about putting together an event - and it will be Doncaster's first ever world title fight.
