Absolutely Donald Curry. He was lightning up until the McCrory fight, and I agree would've been neck and neck with SRL, and then done right after never to return.

Elisha Obed is the other name that came to mind. Mega-upside in 1975-77 and didn't even look like a legit main eventer against Curtis Parker a few years later....

Curry would have been a hard match up for anyone. Starling's later success proved just how good he was.

I can't see him beating Leonard though...or Hearns or Duran...but they'd have been great match ups. probably pick him over Trinidad, Moseley and Whittaker.

Curry could've beaten Leonard around the time he beat McCrory, provided he was facing the Leonard of the same time. A prime Leonard was too durable and eventually would've gone the route he went against Kalule and Hearns (if necessary) and broken Donald down while taking his share of punishment in the exchanges. Still might've gone to a decision, though, and would've been an awesome technical affair/fire-fight while it lasted.

Someone's answer of James "Buster" Douglas 1 night in Tokyo seems fair. How many other guys are there like him in Boxing history? Who had one very impressive, very well earned victory...and were never able to compete with Top fighters again? I gotta assume that's something that hasn't happened all that often.

Baldomir had a good run with victories over Judah and Gatti, but I don't think he was any better then than he would've been the year before or after that really. Judah just underestimated him and did his usual late round tiring act and it costs him. Gatti overestimated his boxing ability, and underestimated Baldomir's when that fight happened.

So did I, I remember I thought Gatti was going to outbox him in that one...I couldn't have been more wrong, Baldomir fully controlled that fight.
