This was inspired by a poster who brought up Holyfield/Moorer II in the Moorer/Sanders thread.
Let's ask it this way:
Is there anybody who would pick Sanders?

The Holyfield that fought Oquendo could beat prime Sanders not only due to talent gap but also due to styles .

I think there is a fair argument for Sanders beating Moorer, but I would submit Holyfield would be too solid for him. Holyfield would have had his cage rattled at least though, and taken a few hard shots.

Relieved no one has picked Sanders. Hope it stays that way.

Anyone who picks Corrie Sanders here should be banned.

The Holyfield of the Czyz and Bean overly-criticised performances would overcome Sanders, inside the distance.

Evander probably beat 20 fighters that would be sound favorites over Sanders. Christ, enough threads about that fat ass. And if the man is the hot topic of the moment. At least put him in there with guys like Williamson and LeDoux and put an end to these mismatches.

It's bizarre as hell. Though I think I came up with a good fight in LeDoux. That would have been one sloppy war.

Sanders/LeDoux is actually a strong matchup. I would have to side with the one who was a fearless hardnut who mixed it up with the division's all-time hitters and carried his power late. So basically the guy who's not Corrie Sanders.

This is the last time I'm writing the name Corrie Sanders for at least a week.

Styles make fights - Sanders had good power and handspeed, but poor chin and stamina. He could never win against an iron chinned, iron willed heavyweight like Holyfield, he'd have less than a puncher's chance.

He isn't, not in 100 fights. Polecaddy thinks Sanders is the real life Drago. It's comical.

Just cos I called you an idiot, you're having a pop. I never once suggested Corrie had much of a chance against Holyfield. He has that punchers chance, which is basically a way of saying there's a slim chance a fighter will win.

That would've been a fun fight. I'd actually edge Sanders in that one as I think LeDoux may not last the first 4 rounds, but if he is still strong and standing at the end of 4 the fight is his.

I haven't looked at the stats, but the answer COULD BE as easy as "who walked in weighing more"?

If Holy eats enough pie directly before the fight begins, it sets the stage for an upset...........stomach?


Was Holy an overblown cruiser? This is an important factor I'm told we must consider to be "modern" in our thinking.

I'm not saying he's winning this one in any circumstances. But I think people are short changing poor old Corrie a little bit here. He was 37 when he beat Wlad, 34 when he lost to Rahman. Both fights well past his peak. Now if you go on You Tube, check out Corrie v Johnny DuPlooey, when Sanders was 25 years old. You'll get a better idea of how dynamic (and conditioned) he could be. And have a look at Johnny DuPlooey too, wrecking Mike Weaver among others. Both South Africans now deceased of course.

Comparing the attrition that Sanders and Holyfield had is absurd. Holyfield was in countless wars. Sanders blew out a bunch of mediocre opponents for the most part. I think he had two fights between Rahman and Wlad (two quick KOs).
I'd also pick Byrd over Sanders after a few rough moments early by clear decision when Sanders fades per usual.

Holyfield wins this easy. He's better than Sanders in every way, and prime Holyfield would have ran him out of gas within 4 rounds, then stop him in the 6th or 7th after beating on him for a few more rounds. Hell even the Holyfield that was embarassed by Larry Donald would probably beat Corrie Sanders.
