No, he seems to have regressed in my opinion. Still, I am not complaining too much, never in
a dull fight. :TU: :TU:

Im probably the only one but I think he has. He was clearly fighting smarter than he usually does. Normally he's completely gung ho!

After eight years in the pro game, you are what you are.

Or maybe Virgil has Parkinson's? Maybe that's the reason for the abysmal showing tonight?

Khan's best showing was against Kotelnik...I still think he's regressed since then

No. The only reason Khan wasn't stopped IMO was because Diaz isn't as good as Garcia.

Khan was supposed to look very good indeed. He looked worse than in first 3 rounds of the Garcia fight for me.

Yeah but Kotelnik is flat footed and slow as shit and has a passive defense! You can unload combinations on him and then get away.

I think he has taken away Khan's strengths to be perfectly honest.

Amir is what he is but by god he has super fast hands, great engine, attacks in clusters, at least he takes away a certain amount of the opponents attacks as
they are too busy covering up.

Now he is visibly slowing himself down, he does not seem sure if he should be attacking, defending, jabbing or whatever, I don't believe he has deteriorated so much in one fight so
you have to put it down to the style change, Hunter does not work for him, it was clear even before the knockdown he was not the same fighter, he kept looking at the corner not sure
when or how to mount his attacks.

So I guess that would be a no from me.

Props to him as always for his heart and desire, pleased he saw it through

Yet he still gave problems to Kotelnik and Alexander...

Lets not forget Diaz was wiped out early by Kendall Holt...Khan could hardly wobble him

Holt is a puncher though to be fair. Khan isnt.

I can what you're getting at! As open as Khan was being ultra offensive in a way it helped him because he's so fast he normally gets people before they get him! Now he's become defensive he's possibly more vulnerable perhaps?

Gotta love it, “never in a dull fight” Khan will get sparkled against the likes of Matthysse or Garcia again.

Mayweather give me a fcking break... some people were thinking he could win this fight, really???...

Khans more suited to Roach. His defence aint any better and offensivly isnt as sharp, his combos aremt as fluid or as hurtful. Fight to your strength rather than trying to be something your not, and hes no andre Ward.

I also think Khan might be done at 140. Hes filled out now imo. His healthiest weight now is probably 147

How does Khan's 'super fast ands and amazing offence' get so much credit? He hasn't knocked out anyone of note and it was all he could muster to find enough to just be able to run from Diaz! He ships shots but is hardly some hurtful attack specialist people always talk about. His fights are exciting for one reason - whoever he fights may ko him at any time!

Offensively Khan is one of the best in the world, at least his hand speed is anyway.

We all know that Khan's weakness is his chin. No trainer can realistically remove the threat of Khan being hit on the chin in a fight. To that end I genuinely dont think that Virgil Hill will make any difference to the work that Freddie Roach put in.

Boxers are going to get punched. That risk can never be eliminated regardless of who the trainer is.

That just about sums it up. His hand speed is elite, super-world class and will look flash and eye catching against anyone. His power, though, is average, and totally ineffective at world level, his boxing brain is poor and his chin? The less said about that the better. I have always supported Amir but there is no getting away from it, no matter who is in his corner, he is going to continue to get chinned at top level. He badly needs keeping away from Matthysse.

I like Khan as a boxer and as a human being but his split from Roach was a smokescreen.

Khan does not have a glass jaw but he does have a tendency to be caught by fast handed fighters and if those fast hands have some power he doesn't have great punch resistance.
What he does have is superb fitness, a heart and good recovery abilities which can get him through some rough patches in fights, but he'll always be one punch away from losing against most fast, hard punchers, particularly the hard counterpunchers.
Moving from Roach was a PR rebuild exercise and they tried to deflect his weaknesses and put blame on Roach. This won't help Khan improve. He needs to accept reality and work on a style that minimises his frailty. In that respect Virgil is a good choice but I lost a bit of respect when he pointed to Roach's techniques as one of the problems. :box:

Tremendously difficult to see where Amir goes from here. Surely all the top liners are a bridge too far, and even Brook would be a massive gamble. It's almost an avenue just to go after Maidana, as at least he's beaten that guy once.

So... who does Khan beat if he's getting a world title shot next?

I can't see him surviving Danny Garcia again, Lamont Peterson still knows too much for him and Matthysee will flatten him.

Has Mayweather's opponent after Guerreroe been announced? Honestly, Khan wouldn't surprise me at all.

I dont see how Khan can minimise fragility. It's an occupational hazard of a world championship level boxer that they will get hit, unfortunately every time that happens for Khan it's near on fatal.

I dont see how Virgil Hunter is a good choice in terms of reducing fragility, for I don't think it's even possible.

Khan almost always, gets completely robbed of his senses when he gets punched hard in the head against world class punchers.

Amir Khan will never be able to replicate the fighting sale of Andre Ward and in any event Ward is not fragile around the whiskers.

Virgil Hunter will do nothing for the boy. It's predictable as night follows day that when Khan next fights a world class fighter he will, at some stage get hit and invariably dropped and stopped.

He won't be fighting again until the end of the year. By then Peterson-Matthysee and the expected winner of that vs Garcia will be out of the way so that should present the likely opponent for Khan. He is has to hope and pray it's Peterson because the other two will inevitably take him out. Peterson would still start favorite but there first fight was give and take and Khan was able to drop him, which is extremely rare for Khan to do with head shots against guys of that caliber, so at least he has a chance there. Plus Peterson doesn't hit that hard. He caught Khan and busted him up a bit in their first fight but never seriously wobbled him like he was last night. It's always been a question of keeping Khan away form huge punchers since day one. But of course you have to fight them eventually. I think it's highly unlikely Amir wins a world title again on last nights evidence unless he can drop down to fight Abril or something like that which is never going to happen!

Define 'glass jaw'?

To me it's always seemed like it should be to describe someone who goes down from shots that aren't that good. I don't buy into Khan having a glass jaw, the shots that have finished him have been good shots, but his defence is terrible which allows those shots through.
