The German-based Nigerian Jerry Elliott fights Brian Magee at the King's Hall in Belfast on April 17.
As Top Rank publicist Irving Rudd once said of Lloyd Honeyghan prior to Honeyghan's win over Don Curry: "Who is this guy, how good is is he - how do I sell this guy?"
Can anyone help.
He used to be quite a tough fighter ,had most of his fights in Germany and was in the Beyer camp.He has held various versions of the international titles WBC,IBF but has been beaten in more recent fights,he may just be losing his edge.I remember reading an article a year or too ago about Ryan Rhodes going out to spar with him in Germany 4-5 months after the blundell defeat and he commented how tough a fighter he was.It was that sparring that gave him the motivation to carry on after being so disillusioned with Sportsnetwork.

he is ok, but only a middle weight. got a controversial points victory over Sam Soliman. Still you have to be fairly decent to get close to Sam Soliman.
However 8lbs is quite a jump especially when the guy you are fighting is probably a bit better than you without the natural size difference

Eurosport have broadcast several of his fights, usually on the German undercards.
He's quite well schooled and patient i.e doesn't rush his work, but not particularly quick and doesn't excell in any areas. As sound as Elliott is in some areas of his boxing, he doesn't set me alight.
Physically strong, tad slow. Heavy-handed, but without KO explosiveness. And as someone said, probably slightly over-the-hill. Still, should give Magee a tough tassle but not threaten to win.
