My father, Ernie Field, died recently, and one of his professional fights took place at Raynors Sporting Club in Leicester on 15 January 1968 against Midlands Area heavyweight Champion, the Antigua & Barbuda-born, and Leicester-based Rocky Campbell. Would you know whether Raynors Sporting Club was based in a boxing club, or whether it took place in a hotel ballroom, or similar?
Best Regards

Re: Raynors Sporting Club in Leicester
Don't know if this helps but Rocky Campbell trained in a gym above the Jolly Angler pub in Leicester under Jim Knight. The Belgrave ABC had strong connections due to Jim Knight being a trainer there. The Belgrave have a good website with an email address they might be able to help?

I've found thet 'Raynors Sporting Club' took place at the Grand Hotel, Granby Street, Leicester (part of the Mercure group as of 2015).

I am not 100% sure but I think Johnny griffin had something to do with most promotions at the grand hotelDynamoDegsy wrote:I've found thet 'Raynors Sporting Club' took place at the Grand Hotel, Granby Street, Leicester (part of the Mercure group as of 2015).
