Afolabi - Whiskers

Post by forcefraser »

Old Ola looks to have a fantastic chin on him. He has taken some serious digs off Huck and never looked seriously troubled, plus I remember Enzo hit him with some good punches and he just laughed them off.

It is most likely a natural gift, but I also think the excellent sparring he has had over the years and the old school hard road journey he has had, must have contributed to the chin department.

If he could shake the sparring guy mentality and work on his offense, he would be a real handfull for any cruiserweight.

There really is no substitute for hard sparring.

True but hard sparring shortens careers too, more damage is normally done to a fighter in the gym

It's all natural and in his genetic make up. Getting punched in the face won't improve your punch resistance but it does get you used to being punched in the face :-)

I think is hampered his career slightly and took the competitive edge off him he seems to labour I remember watching him against Enzo touching gloves etc everyround

Afolabi came across as a top bloke on Bunce`s boxing hour. Chilled, confident guy.

I watched it stoned and had a new found respect for Buncey. Cannot be easy carrying a live show like that without an autocue. He certainly knows his stuff. Liam Walsh was a quiet lad.
