The Riddick Bowe Story gets even sadder....

Post by dve3333 »

Here is Bowe's Muay Thai debut last night where he took on an experienced 30 year old Russian in a seedy part of Thailand's red light district. He made $150,000 from Friday's fight, organized by Thai promoters trying to increase the international appeal of their national sport. He weighed in at over 300 pounds was heavy and slow and barely landed a punch. He took a beating with repeated kicks to the shins. Bowe lost his balance and fell five times before the bout was ended by technical knockout after his last fall.

Afterwards though Bowe said "I had a lot of fun. I'm going to do it again. Next time it's going to be different," he said. "I'll be back soon.".

Video quality is sketchy at the start.

yeh 100 grand in their currency, that worked out a $7-50

Thanks for posting this mate, I had a look earlier but couldn't find it.

Very sad indeed.

One positive, I suppose it's better being stopped by leg kicks than blows to the head? Given the state of Bowe's speech these days he doesn't need his brain damaged further.

Agree 100%.

beaten by kicks to the leg not punches to the head and reportedly picked up 100,000 gbp. Was interviewed 15mins after and said "that was harder than boxing, my legs are still hurting 15mins later" . If your skint, as Bowe is, its easy money as these guys aint going to let him near enough to punch, just gonna chop him down. Its win win. Big daddy gets paid well without getting his head punched in, and the promotion get world wide coverage.

For perspective Spinks Judah shared 100usd for the undisputed welterweight worl title a couple of years ago.

Agreed. Fair play to Bowe if he needs the money, he'll be laughing all the way to the bank after that.

it is sad. In the context of who he was, and what he has been reduced to. Let's not forget, before the kidnapping of his wife, Bowe was once seen as the saviour of the heavyweight division. Nice score financially, but still sad.

Not sad at all. If he was getting beaten up on the street, that would be sad. But to he able to still make money like that out of fighting is not sad.

He's doing an 'Afternoon With' in Newcastle shortly, tickets are £90 and limited to 80 people so he must be doing it for an absolute pittance.

Well yes of course it's harder, they're allowed to use their legs, knees and elbows, it's not going to be a walk in the park is it sunshine?

150 grand to Bowe is small beans, he'll spunk the lot and he will have some old knackered legs to go with his old knackered hands when he ends up on skid row. Now that is sad.

Given that the fight was in the red light capital of planet earth (Pattaya) then I reckon your assessment is correct Final Round.

Just seen it on YouTube, albeit it a bit of a dodgy picture, £100,000 or not it was such a sad sight. He never even threw a punch. It might as well have been a bag of spuds in there.

Almost as sad as him refusing to fight Lennox. Gutless coward.
