Anybody know who the gentlemen on the right is?

Post by DynamoDegsy »

This photo will have been taken sometime between 1966 and 1968, my late father Ernie Field is on the left, but does anyone know who the gentlemen on the right is? My father was about 5-foot 11-inches, which means the gentlemen on the right is about 5-foot 7-inches, so I don't believe he was one of my father's opponents, and checking the the other bouts on the same bills as my father, I don't believe they fought on the same bill either. Judging by the expression of admiration on my father's face, I assume the gentlemen on the right is notable, a world champion?

Can you give more context? Any idea as to where this shot was taken?

Sorry, I don't have information on the location where the photograph. My guess would be that it would have been in London when my father was fighting there, as I don't believe there were many world championship fights in Great Britain outside of London in the 1960s (assuming the gentlemen is a world champion). In London my father fought in at Highbury Stadium, Arsenal (21 May 1966), Empire Pool (now Wembley Arena), Wembley (6 September 1966, and 9 April 1968), Royal Albert Hall, Kensington (25 October 1966), Grosvenor House (World Sporting Club), Mayfair (7 May 1967), and East India Hall, Poplar, London (13 February 1968). Sorry I can't be more specific.

I dropped your contribution into the "can you help identify" thread above. I hope you get some bites!

You may want to follow up over there, explaining that it's not "boxbuzz's" connection. (oops) Please forgive, I did not include your moniker etc.

I have now edited it adding your moniker.

AND it looks as if you have a response....you'll need to check out the other thread.

One name that has been mentioned eleswhere, is the British middleweight title challenger, Nat Jacobs who boxed professionally from 1960 to 1970. Does anyone have any other photgraphs of Nat Jacobs? Best Regards

Thanks to all who helped, I've now been in touch with Nat Jacobs' son and emailed him a copy the photograph of Ernie Field, and Nat Jacobs.
