How long until...
....top international fighters turn their back on the UK?
Seems to be a common thing that if you're good and from abroad you get biased refereeing against you here, just as it was with Germany in the 90's, so how long before fighters turn away from our country?

Re: How long until...
Where was there a case of poor refereeing? Thompson was allowed to continue when no one would have complained if it was waved off and Scott started to rise at 9, if a fighter isn't particularly hurt, he'll be up at 8, what did he expect?iamasadlittleboy wrote:....top international fighters turn their back on the UK?

Price allowed to continue-out on the ropes (he failed to meet a most bizarre count)expe wrote:Where was there a case of poor refereeing? Scott "unabe to continue" getting u BEFORE 10 (as you said "rise at 9", raising before 8 or 9 makes no difference the count is to 10")
The Sai fight and numerous others (Calzaghe v Manfredo...)
British Refs are as bad as German refs. We're going to end up becoming the "country no one visits".
Re: How long until...
I would've complained if Thompson wasn't allowed to continue. That a fighter rises late in the count, even at 9, doesn't itself justify a stoppage.expe wrote:Where was there a case of poor refereeing? *"Good" point, besides the fact that fighters kept going to fight in Germany for the big paydays, and do so to this day.ajwesty13 wrote:i was just thinking that .... otkke comes to mind and some of the hideous decisions he had .. very poor stoppage tonight... very pooriamasadlittleboy wrote:....top international fighters turn their back on the UK?

True top fighters do go there in this day but they had to re-invest their image. The likes of Jones, Calzaghe, Toney, Hopkins all had the made excuse of "why would I go over there?" Hopkins in the 90's/00's wasn't on big money, Calzaghe's "missing man" was a German, Klitschko's had to go to the US for their big fights.Khaosai-Galaxy wrote:*"Good" point, besides the fact that fighters kept going to fight in Germany for the big paydays, and do so to this day.ajwesty13 wrote:i was just thinking that .... otkke comes to mind and some of the hideous decisions he had .. very poor stoppage tonight... very pooriamasadlittleboy wrote:....top international fighters turn their back on the UK?

Now a days Germany's reputation as a country you get the shaft in is largely gone though I think we can safely assume it did put the spanner in to a number of fight

Re: How long until...
Some people on here last night saying along the lines of, "he was fighting the home fighter, he should have known to get up earlier, it's his fault."
So, when a boxer gets knocked down, he needs to clear his head, get steady and base the decision of when to get up, on whether or not he's fighting at home?
BULL*****!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you get up at 9, you're up BEFORE 10. If the ref wants to stop the fight, because the fighter ain't fit to continue, then so be it. That was not the case last night.
I hope the referee got well rewarded for his 'efforts' last night, because he should be banned from refereeing.
One of the simplest things a referee has to do is count to ten. Christ, my granddaughter can count to ten.
The OP is right, why would the top fighters want to come here?
People wonder why Andre Ward won't come over. Last night was yet another example as to how completely biased the referees are.

Re: How long until...
Can you imagine the reaction .British boxer fighting for the European title in Italy against the big Italian favourite. The British boxer is well ahead on points and in control. Our boxer gets cuffed around the head and is basically pushed to the ground. He smiles , sits on his haunches and when the count reaches 9 ,rises to his feet. The referee then waves his arms and counts him out.
I can tell you , from back in the day , the Board would demand a meeting with the EBU , with a threat that no British boxer would fight in Italy again until the matter was resolved .
By the way, did you hear the laughable , totally biased comments from Steven Bunce after the fight. SCOTTS CORNERMEN WERE TO BLAME.

Has the reputation really gone though? Fighters still go there and get robbed, Matthew Macklin being a prime example.iamasadlittleboy wrote:True top fighters do go there in this day but they had to re-invest their image. Geale went over to Germany and won 2 close ones, Kentikian lost a close one too so it's certainly being eroded, Afolabi got a draw in a bout most had him losing

Yes, yes, he did the referee can't give him a new chin that doesn't change the bullshit our refs do on a regular basis to favour the home fighter.WelshJack wrote:Price stopped in his hometown a few weeks ago what are you talking about?

That could have something to do with the fact that he couldn't continue.WelshJack wrote:Price stopped in his hometown a few weeks ago what are you talking about?

The UK is hardly a biased place though isn't many foreign fighters I think have been robbed on the score cards in recent memory.keithmoonhangover wrote:That could have something to do with the fact that he couldn't continue.WelshJack wrote:Price stopped in his hometown a few weeks ago what are you talking about?

Chilemba got robbed in the first fight against Bellew just a little while ago.WelshJack wrote:The UK is hardly a biased place though isn't many foreign fighters I think have been robbed on the score cards in recent memory.keithmoonhangover wrote:That could have something to do with the fact that he couldn't continue.WelshJack wrote:Price stopped in his hometown a few weeks ago what are you talking about?
Plenty of others.
Commonly held opinion by overseas fighters, which is why so few of the really top fighters bother coming here.
You, rose tinted spectacles, and all that...
It obviously happens elsewhere too, but I'm incredulous you think this isn't the case here too in Britain.
Re: How long until...
I had Bellew winning by a round in that fight, there is no way Chilemba was robbed it was probably a fair result.

The overwhelming concensus on the forum, and indeed the press, after that first fight was that Bellew got handed the draw as the home town fighter.WelshJack wrote:I had Bellew winning by a round in that fight, there is no way Chilemba was robbed it was probably a fair result.
Reading across a variety your posts, one gets the extremely strong impression you would give any fight to any particular fighter, as long as he's British.

Re: How long until...
why does this forum go nuts when something differs from the general opinion ,
Theres Crap decisions by refs , judges etc all over the world every weekend , its not exclusive to germany ,uk america etc etc .
Your commenting on them because you saw them , there was likely countless more elsewhere on the same date .
Away fighters will always be treated harsher than the home fighter , by refs judges and other officials , even fans , its just human nature , they can subconsiously be swayed by the crowd or other peoples opinions around them .
Ive not yet seen the Chisora fight as i had my own show yesterday , will catch it tonight or tomorrow , but regardless , when you box away decisions sometimes go against you , its part and parcel of boxing due to the very nature of the sport , its largely based on opinions not on fact .

There is no 10 during the referees count. It is 9 then OUT which is what happened.

Except that he was up at 9, of course.taffytoon wrote:There is no 10 during the referees count. It is 9 then OUT which is what happened.
It's not just the forum that is reporting the count as controversial, but the press is too.
Re: How long until...
Just saw it.
The ref counts nine then almost immediately (like at 9.2) waves the contest off as Scott is rising. I don't see how that can be defended as an appropriate stoppage.

Hardly I would give Welsh fighters almost every fight, but not the rest I score them pretty fairly.kaiserbill wrote:The overwhelming concensus on the forum, and indeed the press, after that first fight was that Bellew got handed the draw as the home town fighter.WelshJack wrote:I had Bellew winning by a round in that fight, there is no way Chilemba was robbed it was probably a fair result.
