Ringside in the last few months

What does everyone think of Ringside in the last few months?

I am very pleased that in the last year ringside have covered all fights rather than their own; and I think it's the best magazine show on boxing (not much competition mind.)

What does everyone think about the presenters etc? I have to admit to thinking Adam Smith does a good job. Johnny is a bit limp and I would prefer Glenn in his position. I like the guests they bring on. It's a bit cheesy, everyone seems to have a shit-eating grin on their face though, it's a little nauseating.

It's strange to me to see a show on boxing, which lets be clear is a dangerous and hurtful occupation, be presented with such a flowery disposition.

But on the whole I think it's miles above Buncey's show and I never miss it.

How does everyone else feel?

Wish they would do more with Ed Robinson and Spencer Fearon though

Toe2Toe is good but not unless your a die hard fan do you really know about it.

Think that would make a good 45 min show on a Tuesday

Feel let down a little by SKY in terms of their output. allegedly is killing them.

I just wonder...how much would it really cost them to show delayed title fights from say Japan...Korea...etc...? Even highlights?

Christ the last thing you wnat to see is more of Spencer Fearon on screen , it would turn into something out a Fifty Cent / Pimp Music Video

Can't stand Smith and Nelson presenting it if I'm honest. Don't mind Johnny as an analyst on a fight night (other than his ott views on Hearn fighters) but feel both of them on Ringside with their forced buddy buddy banter and cheesy grins push me over the edge.

What really turned me off when it came to Adam Smith was the fact he took advantage of his position as Head of Boxing on Sky and used a full episode to hawk his book just before Christmas last year.

I feel Ringside has improved over the past 12 months. I do also enjoy Boxing Matters on allegedly each Thursday. Both viewed together back to back is my Thursday night viewing ritual.

Adam Smith is a waste of space not in bunces league.

Mcrory is the worst thing about it, Nelson is miles better than him

There's an incredibly censored and unnatural atmosphere about Ringside.

Generally, the interviews inside the studio seem like they've been rehearsed and checked over by a PR team. Rest assured, if Anthony Joshua is on tonight's show about the matchroom signing we will learn absolutely nothing of interest. He will say all the right things about 'moving to the pro game' , and 'listening to his trainers', and how Eddie 'will give him to platform to develop as a Pro', and how he'll 'learn from the mistakes made by Price and Audley, even though he respects and looks up to them'.

BOOOORING!

Although they've started to at least report on non-sky shows, there's still an incredible bias towards matchroom fighters, and any opportunity to dismiss or criticize Warren, Maloney or Hatton fighters is seized upon.

Ed Robinson is very knowledgeable, and I think is fair in his assessment of fighters. His voice over reporting is annoyingly stilted though (he says 4 words... pauses.... says another 4 works... pauses) , and I think he's still learning to be a little bit more relaxed with how he talks on camera. I've not listened to his podcast yet, so perhaps I should to see if he comes across as a bit more charismatic and relaxed on that. I know Ed sometimes comes on here, so I hope he doesn't take anything I've said too personally. I'm not saying I could do a better job myself, because I know I couldn't.

Good point. It is rather vanilla. Robinson is very knowledgeable it's true. Not natural in front of a camera though.

Agree with Benelio the atmosphere dork Smith cultivates is unnatural.people like Mcrory, watt,Moore and Woodall and oliver all worried about losing their spot and Smith always talking up "our heavyweight division" and talking the sport up like a bad estate agent talking up the market.

Disagree on Robinson he's probably the best thing about it

I dont mind it at all. Mcrory irritates me a little as i don't think hes a very good pundit or commenter ... and hes scoring of bouts is a little laughable at times... the only thing i would change though they seem to skim over up and coming fights and its more about fighters per say, which i dont mind but just a little more informative... i must admit though after half an hour or so i tend to have it on in the back ground while im doing other things... :(

Glenn McCrory is the worst pundit on Sky. Sure he was there at the start when the channel was pants, so there is a degree of loyalty, but there are far more interesting pundits out there (and British World Champions), almost every British World Champion since McCrory is more interesting.

Sky need to freshen it up; Barry Jones and Paul Smith are very good on allegedly. Sky poach their boxers so why not their pundits also?

As much as I like the guy I can't stand Fearon on T2T and he'd make me want to avoid Ringside, I have to say.

It's all the 'for real' crap that grinds my gears, just find it annoying.

Ed Robinson is brilliant though and as an aside is one of the nicest guys you could ever wish to meet. Johnny is a legend but I think they would be best served not giving him a script; he seems very wooden when he's reading from one but when ad-libbing is brilliant.

There is more action in Yemen than in Korea at the moment, but Japan and Thailand surely can't cost that much.

Shame the Korean scene looks to be on it's arse for the 10 count.

The program is only as good as the fights on that week and the content / guests.

It gave us the stand-offs between Wlad and Haye, Degale and Groves. They had the Kessler training, then in the studio, followed by Froch - and the other day it was Fury and Haye.

Obviously when there isn't much to look forward to, they have to pad it out a lot and talk amongst themselves for the most part.

With any sporting news program, it sinks or swims per episode based on what events are coming up.
