Liverpool Referee Mark Lyson

Post by Chris W 1982 »

Hello Guys

Spoke with Mark this morning and sadly, his 23 year old daughter Katie has been diagnosed with leukaemia and will begin her treatment immediately.

Mark is well respected throughout the sport and I'm sure all that know him will agree that he is an absolute gentleman who is a credit to British boxing. There are a lot of tributes currently being paid to Mark and Katie on Twitter and I know that they greatly appreciate the concern and well thoughts of everyone sending their best wishes.

Just thought I'd post this so that the members of Boxrec can lend their support to Katie and Mark during these testing times.

Thanks a lot guys.

All the very best to Katie, Mark. As you say, today was an important first step in the right direction.

On a separate note, you've developed into a very good referee, a bit like Howard 'Slimline Tonic' Foster.

Hi, I don't want to bore anyone on the Boxrec forum, but I have had quite a lot of people ask me how things are going with my daughter, so I hope you don't mind me replying on the open forum.

We got some fantastic news just over a week ago, the doctors told us Katie's latest bone marrow biopsy came back clear, and they told us she is in remission. She still has more cycles of chemo to go through, which in its self is very hard, and we know there is still along way to go, but we are made up with this news. Katie has been amazing all the way through her treatment and has faced everything head on.

Today me and Katie spoke with the head consultant over her, and he is very pleased with her progress and told us everything is on track.

I would like to thank everyone for their kind messages, they are really appreciated and have helped us through some difficult times, the boxing community has some real good hearted people.

I would also like to reassure anyone who have similar difficulties or obstacles in life, please don't give up hope!!

God Bless You x

I apologize in advance as I know this is not boxing related, but i am regularly asked how my daughter is doing, and get lots of well wishes.
Well after nearly two & a half years, today has been my daughter Katie's last day of treatment for leukaemia, and yes she is cancer free! There have been some ups & downs along the way, but Katie has been strong throughout, and I am a very proud dad x

Thank you to everyone who have wished us well along the way, it has been very much appreciated :TU:

I also hope this will help anyone who are going through any similar difficulties, it really is shit at times but you can get through it.
God bless x
