James Toney : His speech has worsened considerably !!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Grh95m9uF5o
Looking at some Mayweather videos, i came across this video of James Toney. A few years back, i would struggle to know what Toney was saying, but could just about follow him. Now, it's as if he is talking another language !! I only managed to understand what he was saying towards the end of the video. He is becoming a little like Tommy Hearns. Each fight that Toney has is having a lasting and damaging affect on his health. When will the guy just quit and stop fighting altogether.

I could make out what he was saying, the first bit, in the ring, he had his mouth piece in.

lol, that could maybe explain it, but he wasn't sounding the clearest when he was sat on the ring apron was he ?palooka wrote:I could make out what he was saying, the first bit, in the ring, he had his mouth piece in.

No, I don't think he could do a tongue twister - 'She sells sea shells along the sea shore', he does sound a touch drawled but there are far worse who've boxed for far fewer years at a much lower level.355 Berlinetta wrote:lol, that could maybe explain it, but he wasn't sounding the clearest when he was sat on the ring apron was he ?palooka wrote:I could make out what he was saying, the first bit, in the ring, he had his mouth piece in.

He needs to continue fighting until someone knocks some sense into him. He still thinks he can beat both of the Klitschkos and David Haye.

I know you're being ironic; but the odd thing is the more punchy a fighter gets, the more they seem to believe hey can beat the top fighters!keithmoonhangover wrote:He needs to continue fighting until someone knocks some sense into him. Apparently Riddick Bowe thinks he can beat Wladimir....
Re: James Toney : His speech has worsened considerably !!
He does sound worse than ever and the last time I heard him. he was bad.
Re: James Toney : His speech has worsened considerably !!
He's far worse than Hearns, who you can still understand and who still seems to have his wits about him, Toney seems to be on another planet and unlike some on this thread I find it all very sad and disturbing.
Re: James Toney : His speech has worsened considerably !!
He may be bad now but imagine in another 10 years that's when it gets bad!! Shame he obviously still needs money top level athletes need better guidance happens to muchfatcity69 wrote:He's far worse than Hearns, who you can still understand and who still seems to have his wits about him, Toney seems to be on another planet and unlike some on this thread I find it all very sad and disturbing.

Bowe is supposed to fight Mark Potter for the unlicensed heavyweight crown from what I hear.reggaereggae wrote:I know you're being ironic; but the odd thing is the more punchy a fighter gets, the more they seem to believe hey can beat the top fighters!keithmoonhangover wrote:He needs to continue fighting until someone knocks some sense into him. Toney's diction is absolutely appalling in that video, I cannot believe how bad it is. He sounds seriously brain damaged.
I don't find it amusing and I'm not cruel enough to say 'well, that's his own fault'. I don't see how any genuine boxing fan can enjoy a man's career and then callously dismiss him once he's ceased to be an entertainment, because he didn't have the business acumen to hold onto his money.
Some of the people on this thread, as usual, sound like total sociopaths.

Re: James Toney : His speech has worsened considerably !!
I didn't post this thread to poke fun at Toney or give invitation for others to do likewise. I posted it because i don't like to see former great fighters end up this way. When Toney was fighting the likes of Holyfield and Rahman at heavyweight, he had a bit of a drawl in his voice, but he was no-where near what he is today and he even looks a litlle lost if you ask me. It's one of the reasons why i am pleased that Roy Jones appears to have hung up his gloves finally. The fact that people like Sechback or whatever his name is are still interviewing Toney for his opnions is because he is a somebody in the boxing world.loaded_gloves wrote:Toney's diction is absolutely appalling in that video, I cannot believe how bad it is. Yes wasn't insinuating yourself in any way, mate.
I looked at Roy Jones record just the other day and noticed he hadn't boxed in over a year. He must be 45 now and despite some chilling knockouts at least sounds clear on his HBO commentary job. I hope he has seen sense and retired but live in fear of an announcement at any time.
Isn't he planning to box some MMA star or something?

I really hope that isn't the case, i really do. At some stage, a fighter has to recognise that he can't compete anymore. Jones is fortunate that he hasn't suffered the same fate as Toney, but i think it's because overall Jones hasn't shipped teh same amount of punches over the years, despite those horrendous knock outs later in his career.loaded_gloves wrote:Yes wasn't insinuating yourself in any way, mate.

Ezzard Charles and Ray Robinson became quite ill later on and died early. It's not over for Roy Jones yet.
The way he wakes up but cannot open his eyes for a long time say after Johnson and Lebedev looks pretty scary. I hope he is fine but wouldn't be surprised to see him battle terrible problems in the years to come.

One of those fighters whose chin is too good for his own good - I never liked watching him at heavy, as watching a middleweight take punches off heavyweights was pretty sickening.
