I do not know what happened to the message I was writing about the fight between McHenry Johnson, known as "Black Star" or "Minneapolis Star," and a man named Thompson on April 3, 1888, which was discussed in my local history column today. It disappeared and, presumably, was posted.

The bout was held in West Terre Haute, Indiana, which was called "Macksville" at that time.
Round-by-round details of that fight were found in the Terre Haute Gazette, available on microfilm at the Vigo County Public Library.
Since the fight is not listed on your website I thought you should know about it. I have been trying to find the first name of the man who defeated Johnson by TKO. There was a man listed as Ervin Thompson in the Terre Haute city directories in the early 1880s but, based upon what I could learn about boxer Mervine Thompson, I concluded it was not him.
