Gavin Rees vs Tommy Coyle

Post by Horse »

VIP promotions chief Steve Wood believes Tommy Coyle is ready to beat former world champion Gavin Rees later this year.

The pair are set to clash in Hull on November 2, live on Sky Sports, with both fighters coming off recent losses.
I'm glad Rees isn't retiring. Very interesting fight.

Looking forward to this, the Hull Arena will be rocking. Tommy Coyle has built up quite a following in Hull. Tough fight for Tommy though, will be interesting to see just where Gavin Rees is at after a couple of defeats.

What a fight Coyle will win points.. Rees doesn't have the one punch knock out power of Mathews and think Coyle will out box him!!

Gavin Rees will win comfortably in this one although big credit to Tommy for taking it, Gavin has a point to prove after thinking he done enough in his last fight and Tommy may well feel the full might of that.

If Coyle loses where does that leave him in the domestic lightweight mix....just a gatekeeper? Same question for Rees...although it is more likely he'll retire after a loss I guess.

I'm loving the LW division at the moment, domestically. Like an un-organised Super 6 with all the top guys facing each other. Real breath of fresh air.

Agreed, its brilliant. And fair play to Tommy going in with Rees after the Derry fight.

Derry and Kevin Mitchell are my favourites at the moment, would be class if them two was to fight.

Coyle vs Woodhouse if he isn't a winner against Rees would make perfect sense?

Excellent bout, I'm pleased that Gavin didn't retire - he's a very good boxer still and lost only narrrowly last time out; Tommy is a very good boxer and both will have their moments; the lightweight division is so good and the quality of the boxers means a loss or 2 doesn't mean the end. We are spoiled in Britain with the lightweight boxers and hats off to them all :salut:

I'm backing Rees here, this is last chance saloon for him and he's got a point to prove. I think he takes it around 116-112, he's a level above Coyle.

That is a genuine local grudge match. Been talked about for years.

Some cracking fights. Great thing is you don't need a tournament style as they all will fight each other anyway.

Rees-Coyle
Matthews-Mitchell
Crolla-Gethin

That's what I'd like to see

Gethin seems to be a forgotten man in the British lightweight division but he's still British champ.

Will the winner of Rees-Coyle get a shot at him I wonder?

Board have ordered Gethin-Crolla so I guess it depends what route Hearn/Gallagher want to take Crolla down. I think that's a good fight for the Froch/groves card personally

Crolla's mandatory and he won't be getting a fight with Ricky Burns until May at the earliest, so fighting Gethin would be a decent option for him, purse bids are due a week on Wednesday.

Crolla will beat Gethin comfortably imo, Gethin has done brilliantly to be British champion but when you look at the others out there at lightweight he is the poorest. I can't see him beating any of these:

Anthony Crolla
Gavin Rees
Tommy Coyle
Derry Mathews
Kevin Mitchell
Terry Flannigan

Maybe I'm wrong but i'd like to hear opinions from anybody that thinks he could beat any of them.

All depends on martins injury I know he was seeing the doctor monday to acess the injury. Hope it was good news and the fight can be made. Lightweight such a great division at the moment wud b nice to see the british title in the mix for the lads hope gethin gets a couple wins and bring some shows to walsall ( close to me ha ha )

I think he could beat Coyle barring Mathews his level of opponent wasn't the best.

Excluding Flannigan they've all been stopped. Gethin's not a huge puncher but he'd be in with a decent chance of upsetting the odds.

That's what makes it a great division. Great mix of youth/experience/talent. Some fights there will be bigger favourites but depending on the night they are all capable of beating each other that's what makes it a great division

Tommy warmed up for the Rock tonight by beating William Warburton 40-36 over 4 rounds in Leeds.

I don't think he beats Mitchell or Rees but I'd give him a shout against Crolla and Coyle and I think he beats Mathews and Flannigan.
