Larry Holmes wins by Decision, by a good few rounds especially in a 15 round fight.

This would be a battle of jabs, but, in his best day, Lennox Lewis is nothing to be awed about. He is a notch or two below the great Larry Holmes.

X2
Everytime I watch Lewis he reminds me of a poor mans version of Larry Holmes.

Oliver McCall didn't put down Larry Holmes, but floored Lennox, who was a bit too cautious at times.Look for Larry to win this one on a 10th round TKO, after feeling out Lennox early, and avoiding his right.

Like Kevin Johnson against Klitschko, Larry's jab wouldn't really work. Lewis in 8.

Holmes by late TKO. Better boxer, better jab, better chin and endurance. The only thing Lewis has on Larry is power and a couple of inches in height, which in HW boxing is miniscule.

I'd be very surprised if this ended in a KO. I'd favour Larry. But he was as out of it against Snipes as Lewis was against McCall.

And Lennox has the better right hand...which Holmes often got tagged with.

tough one. i think prime larry takes it as he would take a risk to finish it and go to war and thats when lewis fell down if he couldnt get out of the war. either mid way KO for larry or points decision for lewis

Prime Larry is the better boxer, and I suspect he'll make Lennox work too hard down the stretch and take it. I can see both men on the floor at different times though. I'd watch.

Hell Pulev would beat Holmes! Right PCT?
No I think I made a fair point in that smaller heavies with reps for excellent jabs often find their usual assets don't work when faced with a (talented) 6'5, 6'6 opponent. And I mentioned Kevin Johnson v Klitschko as an example.

Kevin Johnson has a reputation for sucking. I like Holmes here but I don't think it would be easy. Vitali is someone that Larry would toy with.

And FYI, Larry wasn't small. Even if you think he is, his jab managed to find Cooney here and there.

I like Lewis in a closish decison, which is not going to be very popular in this thread.

Kevin Johnson couldn't beat Tor Hamer.

Holmes had a 81' reach. Lewis has two inches on him. In HW boxing that is nothing; Holmes was a big man with a big frame.

That includes Lennox massive back, Larry might have had longer arms.

Sometimes it's easier to get a clearer idea by looking at the respective opponents. Larry seemed to have had life and death with a succession of boxers Lennox would have beaten with ease.

I don't know who would win but Holmes never fought anybody as big, strong, and skilled as Lennox.

:TU:

Larry's just too fluid for Lennox, IMO, stylewise i think his movement and faster jab stops Lennox planting his feet and using that weight to bully him.

Larry on points.

Considering Lewis was known for his jab, he couldn't handle jabbers himself.

Even Frank Bruno with his ponderous jab was able to outjab Lewis, although, to be fair to Lewis, it was the reckless & Right hand happy Lewis of 1993 & not the more cultured & cautious Lewis of 1995 onwards.

Larry Holmes had one of the best jabs in HW; in fact, in boxing history & he used to control fights with that jab.

I just can't envisage Lewis being able to deal with that jab.

and the fact that Holmes could jab multiple times without having to re-set :TU:
