Will James Toney win Prize Fighter?
Should be good action but as the question says will he win the prize fighter tourny?
Re: Will James Toney win Prize Fighter?
He has been a great fighter over the years, but I don't think he knows what he is getting himself into with Prizefighter,it's a sprint not a long distance race, will need to start fast and not be lazy, otherwise it will pass him by.

Re: Will James Toney win Prize Fighter?
I hope not, losing a Prizefighter might finally signify to him it's time to call it a day.
Re: Will James Toney win Prize Fighter?
I wouldn't put it past him. In other sports, a man Toney's age who hasn't looked after himself would get brushed aside, but this is British heavyweight boxing. I think he'll lose through not being fit enough and look surprised, but I can't see him getting roughed up.
Re: Will James Toney win Prize Fighter?
No, he is past it and shot. This is despite his recent record being better than it should be.
Re: Will James Toney win Prize Fighter?
Everybody else in it is awful. I think he can do it.
Edit: didn't see Sprott was in it. I'm going with him.

No, he's shot to shit. He won't work anywhere near hard enough to win. I actually think the format is bad for him, not enough time to get in his groove, he could actually get hurt, he's a big scalp for all these guys, and they're going to go for him.

He's unlikely to have the cardio to get past the first 3 rounder. I think Sexton would have won it, but he's out now.
Re: Will James Toney win Prize Fighter?
sprott should win this handy
Re: Will James Toney win Prize Fighter?
Sprott is a good fighter and keeps at a very good level, he also trains and spars regularly; Toney is the most gifted boxer ever to be in a PrizeFighter but it is asking an awful lot of him for not a lot of money (relative to his prime).willardx wrote:sprott should win this handy

Re: Will James Toney win Prize Fighter?
Sprott should win it if he bothers to fight.... He let Tye Fields beat him in the last Prizefighter. He nearly threw away the Prizefighter tournament he did win by not doing anything against Skelton (like he did previously against him).
I think Sprott could have beat Helenius. The rounds in which Sprott actually tried he won quite comfortably and looked good. I feel sorry for Jim Evans. Sprott is furious to watch, Jim must get so frustrated with Sprott. We've seen a couple of spats in the corner.
Anyone know if Jim Evans is still with Sprott? If not then Toney will probably win it.
Any bookies have any prices up yet?

Minto is my pick to win. Experienced but not too far past his prime, and a busy style that suits the format. Sprott is my second choice. I'd be very surprised if Toney won the whole thing.

Re: Will James Toney win Prize Fighter?
Sprotty and Minto are two of my fave fighters , so i have to hope these two make it.
Gavern is on a long losing run these days but, like Minto hes a warrior who will give everything
i havent seen much of Toney since he got staggered by Matthew greer some years back...but he surely has the experience to progress however shot he is.
Larry o's enourmous arms will start to weigh him down after a few rounds
Damian Wills is fairly good but lets face it hes another one way passed it....(see derick rossy)
Matt legg should be fairly awful
and we already know how crap Little is
basically if Little and Legg were replaced with a couple of the sheffield lads this would be a 100% competitive prizefighter.

Re: Will James Toney win Prize Fighter?
He will be gassed by round 3 and people will beat him with work rate. Sad shame

Got to back Little at those odds.

7-1 are great odds for Toney
Re: Will James Toney win Prize Fighter?
Toneys too slow & goes through the motions & can't spar his way through surely?
It is a weak line up tho

Re: Will James Toney win Prize Fighter?
I'd rather the lineup be 'poor' and competitive than having one outstanding fighter that would breeze through it.
I don't think we'll get a Heavyweight prizefighter with multiple 'decent' fighters or prospects in it again.
Best heavyweight prizefighterv lineup was possibly the first international one that Perez won (Sprott, Tye Fields, Gregory Tony, Airich). Perez won so easily that it probably didn't make it as interesting as a lot of the others though.

Who are the reserves?
Re: Will James Toney win Prize Fighter?
first round Toney v legg looks well set for Toney to progress.
Lights Out Toney?
Anyone else thinking that Toney literally will have his lights knocked out tonight?
Controversial but I think Larry will win Prizefighter tonight!
He needs it more after the year he has had

Re: Will James Toney win Prize Fighter?
Well done Sprott I thought he would win it. Didn't have the balls to put any money on it though. Sprott is too unpredictable and he showed that again tonight. He should have won that a lot easier than he did. He looks good 1 minute and terrible the next. Gavern was in trouble a couple of times and Sprott just refuses to put his foot on the gas.
I'm glad Sprott won though, nice fellow
