Re: New Larry Olubamiwo interview
I'm totally against cheats in any sport let alone the sport I love. That's said Larry certainly isn't the first or last and he comes across as a nice enough bloke, I don't get it.... I don't get why people cheat.
I know people in mma who are pretty average and hammer all sorts of growth and roids. They got no money, hardly any decent (illegitimate) results, and terrible side effects from abuse.
And for what gain? When he's retired what's the point, I just don't understand it- it's all fake and non achievement. At least some get a bit of coin but even still you must have no self respect to do that. Just so you can walk around in pubs like your a hard man.
I'm not saying that's why Larry did it but I just don't understand the psychology of it all. Life's you against you.
I suppose if Larry was in a group where others did it perhaps it became acceptable.

He is.

Could be down to vanity mate. I've got a pal who looks (body wise) like a 12 year old. When he gets on the gorilla juice he turns into a tank after a month of being on it. It really is something to see. He gets proper snappy with people, and breaks out in sweats. To me, that is enough to say no.

Boxing is too easy on drug cheats.
I hear they might set up a Lebedev Jones rematch. Jones should be banned for life.

the thing I don't get is he was not going anywhere when on the gear so what is he gonna do now hes clean????
Re: New Larry Olubamiwo interview
I agree.Darcy Delaney wrote:the thing I don't get is he was not going anywhere when on the gear so what is he gonna do now hes clean????
Stick him in with Hughie Fury or Prizefighter - he aint going any where near an English or British title.
Re: New Larry Olubamiwo interview
He might just be the same as he was except clean, PED's only work if you put in the effort to make them work, it's like buying an economical car, it's only economical if you drive it economically.Darcy Delaney wrote:the thing I don't get is he was not going anywhere when on the gear so what is he gonna do now hes clean????
Who knows maybe having a clear conscience now he knows he's clean will make him perform better I don't know.
Re: New Larry Olubamiwo interview
I know he's had a long lay off but he looked awful last night. Journeyman at best I think, going forward. No way with all of the emerging talent that he even gets to British level. And that is without the PEDs!!!

Re: New Larry Olubamiwo interview
He looked poor last night. Tried to go in fast, got off balance and got dropped. Then threw everything out the window to desperately make up for the knockdown. Almost worked in the second or third round (can't remember which) when he had the guy in trouble, but had gassed himself out too much to be able to capitalise on it.
I think he tries to do too much. Lots of unnecessary, forced upper body movement... hands low half the time, lunging in. Everything looks loaded up. It just looks clumsy.
He should just keep his chin down, guard up and throw big straight shots that don't throw him off balance. Hog the centre of the ring, and shove back anyone who gets too close. He did that during the Sexton fight and it was the best boxing we've seen from him.

Larry doesn't have a great chin either. You can't be a journeyman with a glass jaw

If I was training Larry all id be getting him to do would be plenty of running and just keep the boxing simple straight 1s and 2s rolling off the hooks and and controlling the centre of the ring with his jab, I think if he done that he'd get to British title level in time but when he did he'd be ready to win the title not just turning up for the fightBenelio wrote:He looked poor last night. Agreed, he need a back to basics approach re; training. Still don't see him getting to British Title level but wish him well.Darcy Delaney wrote:If I was training Larry all id be getting him to do would be plenty of running and just keep the boxing simple straight 1s and 2s rolling off the hooks and and controlling the centre of the ring with his jab, I think if he done that he'd get to British title level in time but when he did he'd be ready to win the title not just turning up for the fightBenelio wrote:He looked poor last night. If I knew enough about training to train him I'd have him sharing the ring (not all out sparring) with little fellows who box well - like they do in Sheffield; because he's a big lump Larry seems to think he's Sonny Liston; he'll not win a British title, not in my lifetime anyway but he could learn to box well, the smaller men always seem to box well to me, they are more composed and aware that they are not imposing destroyers - they jab, move, keep their hands up, keep up a solid punch output and throw plenty of punches half power, they also use leverage instead of muscle, they are aware that after they throw a punch one (or two) are likely to come back harder - they are the men to emulate.
