Hooper`s WBC Youth Title fight
Hooper`s WBC Youth Title fight
I now see Hopper is down to fight Yodkhunsuk Mor Poowana who is 2-0 against fighters that have never fought and is not ranked at all how does this happen what a joke!
Re: Hooper`s WBC Youth Title fight
Oh dear, it's the Shannon Taylor syndrome. Get your fighter to 20 - 0 then put him in with a Mosley
Re: Hooper`s WBC Youth Title fight
Shannon was a junky going into that fight, He said it himself. Drug issue or not Mosley was at his prime so we would never know how Taylor could have went if he was not on the drug. I remember Jeff talking about it too.Grant wrote:Oh dear, it's the Shannon Taylor syndrome. Get your fighter to 20 - 0 then put him in with a Mosley
Re: Hooper`s WBC Youth Title fight
Very easy to say those things after the fact. i find it difficult to belive shannon was a "junky" at that stage, and i would doubt he used drugs at all in the 12 weeks leading into the fight, but only he would know.
Regardless, Shannon was a great domestic fighter who had some good perfoormaces against world rated fighters, he was never going to bet a prime mosley..very few few people in boxing would beat a prime mosley. Obviously that's just my opinion. I am just not a fan of guys who get a shot at greatness, fall short, and then blame it on other factors. There is nothing wrong with being really really good, not everyone can be great.

Re: Hooper`s WBC Youth Title fight
Happy to explain how it has turned out. Not a single lt heavy in Australia with the exception of Blake Caparello will face Hooper. His promoter was keen for Damien to fight for the WBC Youth title. To qualify you have to be under 23 years and 11 months of age. If you take a look through boxrec you'll find there's not too many available (that's an understatement). His original opponent withdrew for personal reasons a few days ago.luke.91 wrote:I now see Hopper is down to fight Yodkhunsuk Mor Poowana who is 2-0 against fighters that have never fought and is not ranked at all how does this happen what a joke!

Not the only mismatch on Saturday's Brisbane card.Ipswich Express wrote:Happy to explain how it has turned out. 46yr old Jody Allen 2-10-0 V Rocky Jerkic looks like an accident waiting to happen.
Jeff Horn on debut in March had a 2nd rd TKO win over Allen.
IMO Allen shouldn't be allowed to fight again in Australia for his own safety.
21yr old Dwight Ritchie needs an opponent on the 13/12/13 Victorian card.
This could be a competitive fight for Jerkic.

You'd have to run that past Rocky's team who organised the fight.

But Queensland boxing deserves better. The public pay their hard earned to watch this dross.
Neither fight is justified IMO.

Find me someone who qualifies for the belt and they'd be fighting Hooper. There's another SE QLD based Light Heavy who does. Unfortunately, he doesn't want to know.

Seems like some of our boxers are reluctant to back themselves.Ipswich Express wrote:Find me someone who qualifies for the belt and they'd be fighting Hooper. There's another SE QLD based Light Heavy who does. Unfortunately, he doesn't want to know.
Broadhurst would be the logical fight.
Pity if they've knocked it back.
Re: Hooper`s WBC Youth Title fight
Why would you need a light heavy in Australia his is fighting for a world title there would be 20 blokes out there he could fight!Ipswich Express wrote:Happy to explain how it has turned out. Don't take my word for it Luke. Go through the boxrec rankings yourself and see how many Light Heavies are under 23 years 11 months.
Broadhurst wasn't the guy I was referring to. He's too old to qualify, but on top of that, him and Hooper are the best of mates and spar every week.

Radivoje Kalajdzic
Johnny Muller
Enrico Koelling
Trevor McCumby
Mirko Ricci
Umar Salamov
Marcus Browne
Im sure one of those fighter would of taken the fight!

Re: Hooper`s WBC Youth Title fight
Nobody signed with a major promoter is going to come to Australia to fight for a Youth belt. That's a fact. The boxer would do it, the promoter who's invested in their young charge wouldn't be so willing. On top of that, for a promotion of this size and without the backing of major tv, the local promoter wouldn't be in a financial position to make these bouts. Muller is someone who might be getting a run in 2014, if we can organise that with his promoter, Golden Gloves.luke.91 wrote:Erik Skoglund - Signed with Sauerland - European champion, not interested.Ipswich Express wrote:Don't take my word for it Luke. Radivoje Kalajdzic - Had a fight scheduled when originally looking for an opponent.
Johnny Muller - Would be a good option and one that will hopefully made in the near future.
Enrico Koelling - Signed with Sauerland.
Trevor McCumby - Signed with Top Rank.
Mirko Ricci - Was already scheduled to fight.
Umar Salamov - Fought 5 days ago.
Marcus Browne - Signed with Golden Boy.
Im sure one of those fighter would of taken the fight!

So why suggest them? It's just a Youth belt. He'll step up in due time.

Why suggest them? Your trying to tell me not one of those fighters would fight hooper for a youth world title this guy your bringing over probably is to old or will not make weight i have seen it too many times before and that is why aussie boxing has a terrible name!Ipswich Express wrote:So why suggest them? Re: Hooper`s WBC Youth Title fight
No I'm not. What I am saying is that the likes of Golden Boy or Top Rank would have no interest pitting their prospects against Damien over here on a small budget show. Boxing 101 my friend. The Thai, who was found at late notice, has had over 100 Muay Thai fights and is currently sitting at 80.5kg as of his doctor's appointment this morning. He also is under the age requirement, otherwise he wouldn't be sanctioned by the WBC.luke.91 wrote:Why suggest them? Re: Hooper`s WBC Youth Title fight
If no one is aus wants to fight hooper he should fight berridge. That would be a solid test.
Re: Hooper`s WBC Youth Title fight
I really don't think they should put him in with Berridge.
