i think holmes has a great chance to win here , ali never fought a boxer like holmes and same could be said about holmes not fighting anyone like ali . holmes had a better jab and punched harder i think . holmes tight points win

in 1997 he'd be called the second coming of

could move, could jab and could dig deep if
needed.

pretty even fight. close decision. in a trilogy
ali wins two.

There is a loose cannon here.

Larry could win....but not without the benefit of his tutoring at the hands of Ali.

So....independently and without awareness of one another....I'd say Ali wins without dispute.

But based on the seeds sewn by Ali himself toward the education of Larry Holmes.

It's too close to call.

Though I think Ali was the better natural talent. I think Larry was the more dedicated student.

Very close fight. I think Holmes has the heavier jab but they probably negate each other there. Defensively, Ali was easiest caught by the hook while Larry was tagged more with right hands. That edge goes to Ali. Tight decision every time they fight, Muhammad probably takes 6 out of 10.

I think this is a good call.....Not sure it would be a pretty fight...Ali in 66 to 67 was a different beast and his reflexes would get him through where the 70's version would find Larry perhaps too quick.

Ali 7 out of 10 matches.

I think Holmes has a good chance BUT I would not feel safe betting.

Both guys struggle against guys of similiar attributes and 'abilities'.

One reality is this... Holmes owes much of his skill and fighting
characteristics to Ali both directly and indirectly and thus has
evolved accordingly.

Ali in his generalised 'prime' was less exposed to fighters similiar
to him in the Larry Holmes sense.

I think it favours Holmes but it would be close at times.
