Which top SMW's does Groves beat?

Post by danamba7 »

So we've now seen Groves at world level and I think we're all in agreement it seems he belongs there.

How does he get on Vs Ward, Kessler, Stieglitz, Chavez Jr, Bika, Dirrell etc?

I think with his movement and power he stands a good chance with all bar Ward. He could actually cause Andre a few problems and I think he'd do better than Froch did but Ward has it all and would find a way to win, probably on the inside.

On a side note, what is it with our SMW's? Benn, Eubank and Watson then Calzaghe then Froch now Groves may be able to write his name in the history books. Further down the line we've also got Callum Smith although he may be moving up to LHW so i hear. We've not had even a short spell without a top SMW for decades!

i think groves will always be an exciting draw due to his style , he can bang but always a chance he could get hurt also and he wouldnt be fazed going in against any of those guys.

Not intrested in anything other than the Froch Rematch though and then take it from there

it makes too much sense not to happen ,

i would pay to watch that again , if Froch vs Ward happens i wont be paying Pay per view though

He'd have a very good chance against Stieglitz, Bika, Chavez jnr, Froch again, Kessler and there's other. I'd fancy both Andre's over him though. I think style wise he doesnt match up to well with those guys. As good of as boxer as he is and as quick as he is those two guys are probably superior in both departments.

Well he's already smashed Carl Froch, supposedly beat the shite out of Kessler in sparring.

Stieglitz is ok, not great, but ok. Chvez jr is dirt, im sorry, pure dirt.

I reckon Groves would beat them all, except for Andre Ward. Interesting times though thats for sure

Just to point out we all seem to be forgetting that Groves was falling apart in that fight. Kessler e.g. is more than capable of putting him in a similar position.

He won 6 or 7 rounds and I don't want to shatter the illusion, but it was a 12 round fight.

He never looked like stopping him after the first round.

And was rocked badly before losing the fight.

But, if it makes you feel better thinking he 'smashed' Froch, then good luck

I was concerned at how Groves was tiring so badly against Froch after having taken a lot less punishment than his opponent up to that point. I'd love to see the punch stats. Groves needs to prove his stamina at the highest level.

I'm a big fan of groves the boxer. So exciting to watch.

But world titles aren't guaranteed. His game plan on Saturday unravelled after six rounds. That would have been fine if he had a strong enough defence to nick the odd round here and there to scrape over the line like most champions do.

I'm left to conclude that he needs kos to win world titles at this moment in time.

Exciting times with Groves, that's for sure, but its early days to be bestowing sure fire world titles on him.

I would fancy him against Stiglietz, Chavez Jr and Bika. Not so sure he would beat Kessler to be honest. Kessler isn't exactly known for having any kind of issue in the chin department and isn't anywhere near as wide open as Froch is. He is a big, tough, experienced operator. He could grind Groves down.

Ward? I think 'SOG' would take him apart to be honest.

he has weaknesses and isnt quite the complete article yet. I still think he would beat bika, anthony dirrel, stielitz, chavez and abraham. if the rematch doesnt happen he definitely has options and the future looks bright.
