Sources from Brazil have informed Boxingtalk.com that unbeaten junior welterweight Antonio Mesquita 29-0 (22 KO’s) will probably be announced as Ricky Hatton’s next opponent in the coming days. No contracts have been signed yet, but Team Mesquita plans to receive and sign the paperwork early this week

Yes that's the one - Hutchinson ( I think ) stepped in. Is this guy any good? Haven't checked the record..sounds a likely bet - FW approved him two years ago......................

Viv Harris was shouting for AGES that noone wanted to fight him and he'd fight anyone, anywhere. To prove his point he went to GERMANY for f***s sake.

All Frankie needed to do was contact Harris who was desperate for a big fight. After his demolition of Hurtado, Harris proved he was a live, dangerous, good fighter. He would have jumped on the chance to face Hatton.

Zab Judah was shouting exactly the same things at the same time.

he was due to fight Lovermore Ndou last month and pulled out. He's not reliable.

You know, I only asked the other day who Hutchinson had stepped in for at five days' notice. Kilburn informed me it was Mesquita. Is this guy ranked in the top ten?

I watched Mesquita sparring awhile back & he has some good speed.
The most recognizable name on Mesquitas record is MX 140 champ Juan Carlos Rodriguez who has been on a tear in MX lately.

Well they keep saying he's taking it step by step fighting better opponents as he gets more experienced. Now if he was supposed to fight this guy two years ago you have to say this is a step back from the Tackie fight. This is now two steps back in a row, Pinto was a step back no matter how they tried to hype him, Pinto was completely unproven, then Pederson stepped in so it was an ever bigger step back than Pinto was going to be.

YET AGAIN ive had to look up this site to check a Hatton opponents record, this is a deep division yet Ricky has still to fight any of them. How does Warren manage to find these guys that noone knows about or has seen fight? Their is simply no excuse for this, enough bullshit about noone wanting to fight him or money issues.

We are gonna hear the usual cliche "you can't argue with an unbeaten record". Mesqita is going to be talked up bigtime and called a "dangerman who is avoided by everyone".

How can Ricky even get motivated for someone like this, I thought he looked un-usually flat last time out. He's wasting his best years fighting these bums. Guys with Rickys style burn brightly for a while and then they burn out, they are not like normal boxers in regards to age. He won't be able to keep up his frantic pace in a couple of years. Its gonna have taken its tole on him. He's wasting his best years.

Y'know, I was watching Davey Boy Green against Ray Leonard the other day, and when the knockout occurs the camera is positioned behind Green. I couldn't help but notice a likeness with Ricky Hatton!

Could this be Hatton - Cotto five (or less) years from now? Hatton is in his prime NOW, and is ready NOW for a worthy opponent, but by the time he ever does fight someone dangerous and live, I fear he may not be outpointed by a slick mover, or stopped on cuts... but be knocked out in chilling style.

Mesquita's record really is one of the most padded ive ever seen. He's 31 as well which tells you after all this time he doesn't have the ambition and belief in himself to step up and fight some real fighters. The Hatton fight is a good payday for him before he retires.
