Mike Tyson banned from entering the UK

Post by chad »

Mike Tyson has been forced to scrap a promotional book tour after being banned from entering the UK.

His publishers said recent changes to UK immigration laws meant he was unable to travel to the country and has been re-routed to Paris instead.

Under the new immigration rules, any person who has been sentenced to more than four years in prison is barred from entering the country.

I agree with the law, but sometimes common sense has to prevail. It's there to prevent known criminals from entering the country in case they commit crimes while they're here. Tyson's here to promote a book, it's hardly likely that he's going to get upto much while he's here.

The book`s a really good read,I`ve just finished it.Very open and honest account of his life and problems along the way and no attempt to soft-soap anything thankfully.
It also actually feels like an autobiography rather than something just randomly ghost-written from notes.
I can see myself reading it many more times too, always the sign of a good book in my opinion.

Based on the new home office criteria, Mandela wouldn't have been allowed in...

That's true.

It's unlikely to be an issue now though, is it? :)

Strange law given that most scumbags don't receive sentences that long, the constant troublemakers tend to do several stretches of 6-18 months.

Murderers and rapists in some other countries tend to get long stretches.

So have I, surely they can let common sense prevail.

You a bit of an expert than on sentencing in every foreign country around the world? Trust me there are many countries e developing world where even looking at someone wrong can get u banged up for years and u don't even get a trial or lawyer.it's the UK that is the soft touch on sentencing but u need to understand uk criminals who got 4 year sentences and above are already here so it don't apply to them

I went to holyfield's 'book signing' in glasgow, he gave out small photocopied prints and refused to sign anything as apparently he had sore hands.

Holyfield's in it for cash. I don't understand why retired fighters do these shows and charge to sign things, it's just ripping people off to me.
