Sure it wasn't February 8th, The Hydro's booked up on the 8th March. I would suspect the change is to allow Ricky time to get a full camp in with sparring and a date had to be found when the venue was free.

basically he has to fight him before the 8th march or be stripped and the doctor has said give it as much time as you can so that's what they will do

Burns is eventually going to lose his title in this one im afraid,Crawfords not one of the most recognisable challengers from the States but he,s a very good boxer, not earth shatteringly brilliant but technically very sound

Better than Burns in every department bar experience and maybe toughness IMO,i hope Ricky can pull it off but i feel Terence is too slick for him and will apart from the later rounds dominate Burns

Funny that I see the fight much diffrent from the way you do, if he's better in every dept he's exceptional and he's not that, Ricky will beat this guy in a great fight

That's a fair enough call Billy but please dont make any excuses if Ricky does lose, ie he couldnt spar because of his jaw, etc.

I do hope your right Billy as not only am i Scottish but im also a big fan of Ricks and have been amazed at what he,s acheived and i want to see him get they big unification fights before he misses the boat, its just that i feel that Crawfords all wrong for him,he,s got good lateral movement and will have Ricky chasing shadows simalar to the Jose Gonzalez fight and after the last 2 fights i think Burns good fortune might have run out,IMO Burns is the fighter in the boxer/fighter stakes in this one, busy jab and constant pressure is Ricky,s key in this one ay

Sorry Billy i PM you by mistake,im no a stalker honest..........look out your window 8)

this will be a great fight

it is a complete 50-50 fight in most peoples eyes and the bookies will probably have it close to even money per fighter.
I will be going for Burns as Crawford has no where near as much experience as Ricky.
Crawford has been an undercard fighter all his career and will never have the attention on him the way he will get it in Scotland. Ricky was not great agianst Gonzalez but still got the victory.
I think Ricky will stop Crawford late in the fight with it been even after six rounds.

Crawford will not like the weather in Scotland in March and Ricky will not this kid out!!!!!!

The more news that comes out of burns camp the more worrying it gets. Fight by March 8th or lose the title, ok we aren't ready but let's fight on the 8th then. Who's putting Burns health 1st here? Surely you want his jaw in tip top condition before putting him back in there? He's not sparred yet and only this week he said he still has no feeling in his lower jaw. How are the bbboc licensing him to fight this soon?

What's the issue? The jaw is fully healed and the fight's 10 weeks away, a week before the WBO deadline. Start sparring next week or the week after and training camp continues as usual. The lack of feeling isn't down to the jaw, when it was broken there will have been nerve damage that takes longer to heal, but has no effect on the strength of the bone. Burns is ready to start sparring and will be ready for a fight 10 weeks away, there won't be any problems with that.

You'd like to think that people around Burns, and the man himself, are not stupid enough to put him back in the ring before he's ready. By pushing the date back as far as possible, they are giving themselves every chance but I'd personally be very wary about booking hotels and the like if he were a fighter I'd pay to go and watch.

Crawford is a serious contender, switch-hitting, fast and wasn't even slightly intimidated by Breidis Prescott swinging like he wanted to decapitate him.

Ricky is doing the best thing and affording himself the maximum time he can to prepare.

I hope the vociferous home advantage helps him on the night, as he has a slippery opponent indeed.

I've given Billy and Ricky some stick on here but its great to see this fight go ahead and good luck to Ricky. I think Crawford will win convincingly, and I fully expected the title to be vacated rather than the fight actually go ahead. It's not an easy one but at world championship level it shouldn't be.

Please don't underestimate the damage done to Ricky's jaw against Beltran. There's broken jaws and there's broken jaws!!! Ricky didn't suffer a 'hairline fracture' - his jaw was separated as far as I can gather. I don't know mentally how ANYONE can be the same again after the pain he suffered when the adrenaline stopped.Footballers can come back after a leg break - but ( and I'm sorry to mention it ) when the leg break involves the bone piercing the skin( I realise this wasn't exactly what happened in Ricky case) , then that's different. I hope Ricky isn't reading this thread because my heart goes out to the boy. I sincerely hope I'm wrong but he will be gun shy. He can spar all he likes but come the contest, the first hard crack on that side of the jaw and Ricky's going down. The pain is permanently in his mind - it will not disappear.
I dislocated my ankle playing football and I don't have the words to describe the pain ,but I can tell you I didn't want to go through it again, and that's got to be an issue with Ricky.

I've seen lads break legs playing footy and come back and never be the same, others have come back stronger. Look at Aaron Ramsey, horror leg break a few years ago, couple of loan spells, back into the Arsenal side and he's now in the form of his life. Some have come back and I see them flying into 50-50s like it never happened. Currently Ricky doesn't actually have any feeling in the jaw because of nerve damage, but if he gets hit on it in sparring and he can't take it, then he'll probably pack it in, but if it's fine in sparring, there won't be any issues in the fight. He fought through it against Beltran, even with the memory of it, he won't go through anywhere near the same against Crawford.

How can you possibly know that he's ready if he hasn't even attempted it yet? This isn't just a daft 6 rounder it's a world title fight. His jaw was completely separated, he's got a plate inserted and still has no feeling in it. It's ridicolous he has a date for a fight without testing if he can still take a shot

Fighters spar when in training for a fight, so he has to have a fight lined up so it can be planned out. If there's any issues with the jaw the fight will be put back or cancelled because any issues won't be repaired apart from the lack of feeling that will come in time. If he can't take a shot on it then he'll probably have to retire because there's little that can be done now it's healed and the bone is as strong as it will get.

Try getting in a gym and learn what pros do mate,Scott Harrison for one only ever sparred three weeks before a fight never done him much harm!
Ricky will spar at least 5 weeks for this fight easily enough time

Billy what's your take on the importance of sparring? I'm just genuinely fascinated by how different fighters have completely different approaches to it, both in terms of volume and intensity.

You can't be comparing Scott Harrison to Ricky Burns? If that's how serious your taking this fight it confirms my worries. It's not a normal situation or camp, any normal fight yes 5 weeks out might be fine but he's had his jaw smashed in 2 and a plate inserted. Surely as his coach you want that jaw testing before you go ahead with any fight rather than rush him into one regardless?

Well i suppose it's a good excuse for if he does lose. Would be better to relinquish the belt, let the jaw heal for longer and then try and get a shot back at Crawford.

They have 10 weeks to test the jaw, how much longer do you want? If it isn't right, I have no doubt that Ricky won't fight, he's not stupid and neither are Billy and Alex Morrison. He isn't being rushed into a fight, it will be 6 months by the time he fights Crawford, I've seen people recover from broken legs in that time. And what's wrong with comparing Harrison and Burns? Both world champions, the only difference is that Burns looks after himself a million times better outside of the ring and is a better fighter. Joe Calzaghe didn't spar a single round for Rick Thornberry and David Starie and hardly sparred for the Robin Reid fight, he still won all three despite the lack of sparring. Treating things differently is when problems come up, there's no need to make a big deal out of the jaw, if there's an issue, it will show.
