Weight loss

Post by NazNaci1 »

Granted there have been lots of post of this nature, but I decided to post about some of the simple things I have been doing excercixe, eating, additional training etc....just to get some feedback and whether I am doing this the right way..

Well, tipping the scales at 15st and being only 5'6, though overweight, I don't look all that bad but, I'm still overweight. So this is what I have been doing. Now bear in mind my weight gain is not down to over eating or a big appittite but solely down when I used to eat (due to work) and lack of excercise...

Past 4 days:
I have started with 20 situp crunches, which I have now double to 40.
Situp position, knees bent and twisting and trying to touch my ankles with my hands, one side then the other x20.
Laying flat on my back, legs straightened out, slowly lifting both feet together, hold, raise higher, hold etc...same as I lower them back down x5.
10 x squat thrusts.
10 x Star jumps (which really kills)

Now, I do this twice a day, as I have said, for four days now and am slowly increase the difficuly / duration / holds.

I have cut out bread, butter / magerine completely as well as cheese. Sugar has been halfed from 2 to 1, with the view to reducing that further. I do not have a big belly or anything like that. I am heavily set but its lovehandles (which have started to trim up since I have started these) and upper thigh area that need the fat trimming.

I have also signed up weekly classes, starting next Wednesday (8th Jan) to in one of the 1st UK Insanity classes, with tutors etc....that will be once a week (I did contact them about Zumba classes and she suggested this, try it and see if I like type basis - otherwise it will be Zumba hahaha)

My goal is to get back down to 12st or just under (my original weight), mainly for health reasons (quit smoking over a year ago and dont drink alchohol much either), myself and because of the fact that I am now single again, at that weight (and I don't look too dissimliar to how I did facially, a little greyer) women to used levitaite towards me ahahahaha.

Any tips? Am I on the right road, in general? I don't won't muscle, as I do have decent muscle mass when the excess is cut. I want to be leaner and around 12st.

Cheers guys and Happy New Year!

think about every single thing you eat - you need to be eating lots of fish, veg, lean meats (turkey, chicken), eggs etc

Well 5 days of doing this and the Star Jumps, which I leave to last, still kill me hahaha...

I have now doubled everything I do and do two sessions a day, usally a couple of hours after the 1st one (that is due to work and kids and stuff).

I have included, not sure what you call it, but its when you adopt the position for press ups but flip up body upwards so your on your side but still off the ground. Good for love handles, apparently.

Checking this insanity class for next week. I hope the 2 American instructors go easy otherwise I think I might die, seriously

If you simply practice intermittent fasting and cut out grains and go generally low carb, you will shed fat. Especially if you have a fair amount to lose. Cheese and butter are fine and even awesome, don't cut that stuff or the carb cravings will get ya. Eat a lot of leafy greens, they fill yea up, are good for ya and have little calories. Avoid sugar like the plague. Have a piece of fruit per day. One piece/one serving. Berries, apples, oranges are king for me.

For exercise I would tread very lightly especially with that high intensity stuff. Especially if you haven't exercised in a while. Get your posture in order and begin a yoga/stretching/flexibility program. Make sure everything is in order before you do anything. For me, "Foundation Training" was very helpful. It costs like 30 bucks and its a great program to start before you start anything.

Elliot Hulse is a go to for me for any body/body part related question.

Run a marathon haha. Seriously though, if you can do a bit of running a few times a week it'll soon come off. I've just started training for a marathon in November and I've lost 6kgs or the best part of a stone in about 4 weeks. That said I was drinking 3-4 nights a week which is now down to 1 and running 3-4 times a week now.

Good point DEG.

The weight has been visibly coming off now and my face is now thinning up, double chin gone etc....I am actually beginning to resemble how I looked in my 20's, albeit a little greyer haha. I just have to keep at it for a while yet so the remainder goes and then I can start to tighten up, a little.

Good luck with the marathon mate. I am a long way something like that at the mo but your obviously a bit fitter than me :TU:

PS Soup diet is working well (veggie and chicken soups, occasional lentils). No carbs, no red meat, no bread, no butter or cheese. Though I am working later and they will be getting a curry, so I might go for some Chicken in herbs and spices (no sauce). I got my insanity work out before then (every Weds and Sat), so I might be ok with the chicken after I am done with today's session.

Just sticking with the Guangzhou one this year, hoping to do the Great Wall one next year. It looks pretty challenging.

Sounds like things are going pretty well mate, keep up the good work.

I'm still in my 20's haha though look a lot better now than I did at 20.

No carbs = huge step in the right direction. No cheese/butter - to each his own, no problem with that but I don't understand it unless dairy fvcks with your gut.
No red meat = No mate. Just no. I can't condone such a thing. Quality piece of red meat once or twice a week is crucial for your body, imo. A steak once a week. Come on, you got this. :TU: Keep up the good work.

Do be very careful when doing no or extremely low carb. I have done it many times in the past, used to swear by it. If you perform any sort of physical activity though you are limiting yourself if you remove them completely.

:salut:

You fasting as well? If not, try just not eating breakfast as a start. Drink a lot of water to kill the hunger pains that will most likely come. Try eating in a 8 hr window. So the first thing you eat say at 12 noon, stop eating at 8 P.M. I usually break my fast around 3 and eat till about 11. 24 hour fast once a week is an amazing thing to do for your body. You can build up to it.

There is truth to your statement. I guess I'm not saying no carb just low carb. Any veggies are fine, 1 piece of fruit sort of deal so you're getting carbs. More like no grains and as little sugar as possible other than a piece of fruit. If you're training your balls off, you're prob gonna need to carb up a bit more for recovery. I've done extreme no carb and felt like sh*t after a while. Not worth it for me bc I believe fruit is essential just in very limited amounts and not everyday. I find berries, apples, oranges to be best for me.

This I fully agree with. I don't eat any grains or sweets (well fruit, but you know what I mean!). But I've done complete no carb before and it sucked!!

I've also had tremendous success with IF. I like Berkhans leangains approach (16/8 like yourself) more than Hoffmekklers. Martin is a lifter and focuses more on that perspective.

Martin is the man! Leangains rules. I really mix it up tho. Sometimes I do 20/4. 24 hour once sometimes twice a week. A go 40 hours once every two weeks which is really amazing. Your GH levels spike at 40hrs as various research shows. You feel fvcking incredible. I supp with BCAA's even when not training. As long as I'm fasting, I'll drink 10-20 grams throughout the day in 5/7 gram doses. It does WONDERS for energy, focus and kills any hunger. I'm surprised it isn't more popular to use as fasting aid. Every person I have told this to and they actually stuck with it has lost a very significant amount of weight and loved it. IF is the truth

Leangains? IF? Fasting? Really?

I rarely eat breakfast anyways but some info, if you guys could share, would be awesome. I am all about cutting weight and not bulking up. Can these things help, in that regard?

www.leangains.com is an excellent place to start. I've never done full on fasts, the most I go is maybe 20 hours. It does work. When I was actively boxing and cage fighting, its the eating style I followed and I was single digit body fat. Now I'm bulked up a lot for powerlifting and strongman, and I use it to cut weight for competitions. Its really well explained with the science behind it at the website I listed.

Yup, leangains is a great place to start.....look into Eat, Stop, Eat as well....IF and good clean low carb eating = easy easy shedding of a ton of weight and eating all the delicious foods you were told are "bad" for you..

I find 20 hours is very, very easy to do...after 20 hours I start to get fvcking hungry! Then, if you can just make it thru the night and go to sleep on an empty stomach, you wake up not hungry at all and getting to 40 hours (spike in GH and after 40 it really isnt doing anything good for ya) isn't hard.....again, I supp throughout my fast with BCAA's which helps A LOT!!! I'll be hungry as fvck and getting tired and I gulp 7 grams of BCAA's, im focused, not hungry and energized for at least an hour and half to two hours.... :TU:

Also, since you're only eating red meat once or twice a week, do yourself a favor and get a quality piece of beef, grass fed, hormone free all that good stuff.....its essential....dont eat the bullsh*t hormoned up full of estrogen crap

Ok, here is an update.

In about 3 weeks of doing this eating more healthy (no bread, cutting right back on Sugar, no potatoes etc), cutting out the crap, eating cabbage, chicken, brocolli, apples and stuff, home works outs and I have now been 2 weeks on this Insanity thing, which I do twice a week, I have cut about 1 stone in weight.

Now, I am a little disappointed with that as I wanted to shift it a bit quicker. Any of you guys have any tips on what I should be doing as I am getting a little impatient with this.

Fasting?
Different sorts of excercise (though not running yet)?
Foods? I should be eating more of and less of etc.

Just some help would be awesome as I really want to do this and cut about another 2 stone, fairly quickly.

Thanks guys.
