What is the official rule on this........

Post by Mimmy »

If this ever happens in boxing which I very much doubt but if this did what would the ref do or the official ruling be?

So one boxer knocks down the other, but feels sorry for guy and goes over and helps him up before the 10 count, the one who was knocked down is then ready to carry on fighting. (there is a upcoming movie where this happens)

So whats in the rules if this ever happens?

My guess would be they would just continue fighting. I doubt there is a contingency for such an event in boxing rules.

As with any knockdown, or in fact at any time deemed appropriate, the referee could choose to stop the fight regardless of whether the opponent made the count or not, so it wouldn't matter if he was helped to his feet. If anything the fighter who caused the knockdown would risk getting DQ'd if he was seen to be refusing to go to a neutral corner after the knockdown.

Depends on the Ref. Howard Foster would end the fight before the downed fighter hits the floor rendering the actions of the helper moot.

There is a rule and it has been answered! If boxer A knocks down boxer B then boxer A is to go to the furthest neutral corner. If he refuses and did indeed try and help boxer B up the Ref could either have a strong word, deduct a point or indeed DQ the boxer if he refuses to obey the instruction of the referee.
