Carl Frampton v Leo Santa Cruz in 2014 ??
Carl Frampton v Leo Santa Cruz in 2014 ??
Watched todays ringside earlier and Frampton said he is going down the WBC route. Made Martinez a massive offer to return to Belfast he said it was 10x what he made last time. He says Martinez just doesn't want the fight and reckons it would take until 2015 to get a title shot with the IBF.
Looking at the WBC rankings Frampton is actually no 2. I've seen a few of Leo's fights ( not his last one yet) and he looks useful he is pretty much a mini Margarito very good body puncher as well. He is very active and has no problem going the long rounds.
Think its a quality matchup personally but I'm really unsure of the chances of it happening soon or even if Leo would come to Belfast at all with him being a GBP fighter. Ultimately Barry needs to deliver for Carl this year....... realistically they could go for a final eliminator against Hugo Cazares the no1 in the next few months.

Though most of his success has been in lower weight classes.

There wasn't much smiling from Carl on ringside Thursday, he looks like he means business this year
Re: Carl Frampton v Leo Santa Cruz in 2014 ??
if Frampton picked up a loss on the way, then won a world title, would he then defend it vs the guy who beat him?
world scene's not all about Frampton.
kiko's beaten dunne, romero & mathebula, moves on and faces decorated former 2 weight champ hasegawa (bidding for his 3rd world title) next.

Frampton vs Santa Cruz would be a helluva fight. A fight to see who the 2nd best fighter in the division is. (Rigo is the man at the weight)
Re: Carl Frampton v Leo Santa Cruz in 2014 ??
it'd be a really good contrast of styles and you'd think they'd compliment one another well.
still, kiko, who lost to Frampton, got on with it and has gone further than the Irishman. a source of frustration to many, but the Spaniard deserves his success & is building serious momentum.
imagine kiko v santa cruz. reckon darchinyan, who performed well vs donaire, also has a place in the super bantam, gritty bastard's class.

Re: Carl Frampton v Leo Santa Cruz in 2014 ??
If Frampton wants kikio again, why not offer to fight on his patch
the bottom line is, kiko is champion & kiko travelled to belfast last time out.
if you want the belt, return the favour and take him on in spain. Frampton surely has to be confident of the win regardless of the venue, so grow a pair and get on the road.
If he gets the belt, then he can call the shots and start demanding the home town fights that will draw in the big crowds and the top paydays. until then, do what you have to do to win it

Re: Carl Frampton v Leo Santa Cruz in 2014 ??
it just seems to me that Frampton has sat on the kiko win whereas kiko's just got on with it and made the absolute most of his career.
can't wait for hasegawa-martinez. my big concern, that it gets shown over here.

Because theres no money in the fight in Spain. Kiko’s fight with Mathabula wasn’t even on Spanish TV!davie wrote:If Frampton wants kikio again, why not offer to fight on his patch

But I agree, Kiko is entitled to fight who he wants until there is a mandatory and good luck to him.

khan didn't defend his title vs Prescott.Finch wrote:Khan did against Prescott......Autobarn wrote:if Frampton picked up a loss on the way, then won a world title, would he then defend it vs the guy who beat him?
Martinez, interestingly, was considered a Prescott, having destroyed dunne but beaten no one else of note...until romero & mathebula.
sooner or later ppl will figure Martinez out but good look to him and hope he makes the absolute most of it, and if he loses say to hasegawa, hopefully HBO have him back in some non title wars (darchinyan?)

On January 5th, Frampton claimed he was boxing for a world title in the coming weeks:

Re: Carl Frampton v Leo Santa Cruz in 2014 ??
definitely fighting mijares means he has avoided Frampton because
Frampton said they made a big offer for the fight and he'll be earning a lot less to fight mijares
Mijares is old now for these weights and is in there to make santa cruz look good
I'm telling you santa cruz is not great just good and very beatable by Frampton

Worth noting that Mijares was first linked to Leo a LONG time before Frampton...but yeah clear duck, obviously...just like Frampton ducked Galahad...Boxing Addict wrote:SANTA CRUZ IS FIGHTING MIJARES ON 8TH MARCH

Re: Carl Frampton v Leo Santa Cruz in 2014 ??
Frampton ranked no 2 by wbc mijares is very old for a super bantam!!!!! ranked no 6 by wbc!!!
Look truth is leo santa cruz isn't as good at this weight and is being kept away from real threats like Frampton
disappointed cos really think Frampton is the 2nd best in the division behind rigondeaux and would have beaton leo in a cracker
Frampton took piss out of Martinez who is the current IBF champion, Frampton's got real power at this weight which Leo has not got.
I can only see a boring technical type of fight with Cruz and Mijares but Cruz vs Frampton would have been explosive
Is obvious all the current champions are avoiding Frampton and I bet he will have to do several eliminators before he gets a mandatory

I'm sure Rigo is avoiding him...
Why not go for that one? One of these massive offers could be thrown Rigo's way surely?

Re: Carl Frampton v Leo Santa Cruz in 2014 ??
Just watched Leo's fight last night.
He had it too easy IMO especially the later rounds the one sided score cards say it all.
I do think Carl has the tools to take him but it won't be easy especially as it is likely he will have to travel and Leo does look very durable.
Also one of the showtime commentators said Leo was earning a career high purse of $500,000 for last nights fight.

X2 - If Frampton wants a world title he's best getting Martinez or Quigg - Rigo and Santa Cruz are a level above the others.arlovski wrote:Boxing Addict wrote:SANTA CRUZ IS FIGHTING MIJARES ON 8TH MARCH
