Prince Naseem Hamed "Carl Froch is a shot fighter"

Post by chad »

In an interview today, on TalkSport, Hamed urged 36-year-old Froch not to get in the ring with his young rival (Groves) again having taken heavy punishment early on in their first bout before the contentious ending.

"After that fight, Carl Froch is a shot fighter and that means, in my game, you are finished," said the former featherweight world champion.

I think he's almost shot in that he's clearly off the pace in timing and reflexes against talented young fighters. He was perhaps flattered slightly by his recent fights prior to Groves, in that opponents were also slowing a step.

Froch is staying around too long. He doesn't make his opponents miss enough for this sort of longevity. I think he's addicted to proving how hard he is, and also to getting punched to a degree. Great fighter though, but for my money, he's got money in the bank and a wife and baby, his priorities should be with them now, not getting smacked repeatedly by speed merchants like Groves - who will hit him, win or lose.

Before this frochs career was a alltime high riding on the crest of a wave!! Had hamed been ringside when he fought jermane Taylor he'd of said the same. Froch has got two more fights left in him at top level

I think Froch has a couple of great performances left in him if he takes longer breaks between fights.

Chavez for a good payday is fine. But Andre Ward would be a terrible send off fight. Probably a shut out loss.

Usual 'shock' tactics by hamed.

Froch is fine.

I dont think Froch is shot. He was just in with a guy that stylistically was going to always give him problems. Guys with speed have always giving him trouble to a degree. Hamed isnt relevant anymore. Once he hit 30 stone his opinion become void.

Froch was still going to KO groves which is a great achievement in a fight you were getting well beat in.
Froch is a legend and all the burger sauce must be going to hamed's brain

Yeah he's only arguably the most (naturally) talented pro boxer the UK's ever had. Of course his opinion means less than the average forum mongoloid!

I would happily submit that he knows boxing far better than I do. Not perhaps general trivia and individuals, but proper appreciation of boxing skills. How could he not do, he was an elite boxer!

To be fair mate, to say he isn't relevant anymore is a bit harsh and i'm not sure why his weight gain changes his knowledge of the game? :o

Well he's not exactly stayed in touch with the sport by the looks of things has he? His weight has ballooned to god knows what and we see him very infrequently on tv and what have you. Also because a fighter was a brilliant talent doesnt always mean he's the best at analyzing over fighters.

He was ringside for Froch-Groves, he has also been there himself, quitting at the right time when he knew it had gone.

How do you know it was the right time though? It seemed like he lost to Barrera and then he didnt fancy it anymore.

He boxed once more, looked very flat, and then jacked. He knew, that's good enough for me.

You said his opinion became void after his weight gain, does that mean he had a better opinion when he was fit?

What I was getting at is I dont think he's really in a position to tell Carl that he should retire. Carl is a guy that by all accounts lives the life whereas it doesnt really seem like Naz did. Also it seems like a typical knee jerk reaction *normally from an armchair fan* to say a fighter should retire because he had a lot of trouble with a fresh 25 yr old with speed and power. Naz should know better.

Maybe Naz is speaking from experience.

Doesnt mean he's right though. Carl would of struggled with Groves's attributes when he first became a world champion. He's never been the quickest or the hardest to hit.

I agree. I never cared much for his opinion a lot earlier either.
