Eamon Magee WBU welterweight champion

I would like to ask anyone out of curiousity would they agree that if eamon had beaten ricky hatton as he should have,would eamon have given mayweather and manny p. a better fight than hatton.Eamon should have held a more reconized version of the world title but never did because he never gave the professional game the same committment as he did in the amateurs,never fulfilled his true potential.

Why should have he? He should a flash knock down but was old and beaten by a fresh, world class Hatton. Magee was a great figher but never operated at world title level. He would've never got past Kostaz Tz, let alone mixed it with Manny or Floyd. They wouldn't have even considered him

due to his style he would have probably lasted longer but lost wide on points (maybe getting stopped off Pacman) . Hatton beat him well on Points due to work rate, Hatton was a monster back then , as skillfull and Tough as Magee was he wasnt great to watch and was pretty lazy.

A quote I once heard from people who knew Eamonn which was that "you can't win a world title training on beer and e's". The guy had the talent to go all the way but he liked the high life, smoking, drinking, etc. For me his best performance was against Oktay Urkal. Great fight with Magee showing a lot of fighting spirit but it showed that the true level for Eamonn was short of true world class.

He had the style to beat Hatton and proved that but sothpaws always gave Ricky trouble. He would have lost to guys that Ricky beat but would always have had a chance against Hatton. He would never have attained a position to fight either a Manny or Floyd.

Definitely an underachiever. His conditioning always let him down; that's why he was so conservative with his punches.

Great chin, could bang a bit (at 10st) and decent defense.

Magee SHOULD have been a World Champion. I have a Ricky Hatton documentary in the house where he says that Eamon was the hardest puncher he ever faced.

That's a massive tribute to Magee's power.

Definitely one of the biggest shames in Irish boxing.
