I don't think I can remember the last undisputed champion of a division, it's surely not as far back Jermaine Taylor, almost ten years ago?

You're right; I think Hopkins was the last fella introduced as such before a fight. They started stripping Taylor the moment the decision was announced, I think (being scared of Nard was the only thing keeping the belt-hander-outerers honest).

^ Don't bruv, I got about ten years on you!

Though I should add, in my reality at least, Sergio Gabriel Martinez is the undisputed middleweight champion of the world.

He beat the man who beat the man etc.

Fvck me, I think the last undisputed champion might very well have been Zabdiel fuckin' Judah!!! Wasn't Spinks stripped of the WBO title before beating Mayorga? Which means he had claim to all four belts (as Mayorga had unified with Forrest)?

Fuckin' hell, I need a lie down now.

& I think Darchinyan was probably undisputed super-flyweight champion about 5 years ago, which is obviously quite cool.

There's not even the same drive to unify the titles as there once was. How is it someone like Mayweather has never unified a division? He should have all four at welterweight by now. It's so frustrating. Wlad has never been a unified champion either, even when his brother was retired.

Mayweather has always been, for all his talent, a cherry-picking risk averse son of a bitch. He just has. Sorry, I know it's not popular to point it out, but there you go.

Wlad should just say "fornicate it, gimme the belt Stiverne or Arreola" in like his last couple of fights. Just so he can say it (in a Ukrainian accent).

& yep, Zab Judah man. & he only had them 'cos he upset the applecart & nearly killed Cory Spinks. Say this for Don King, he could bring the organisations to heel like the ratfink scum-sucking pieces of shite that they are.

Yep he certainly has. Speaks volumes that despite being a champion in 5 different divisions, he's never unified a division.

Which one belt would that be? The belt recognised by the NYSAC & the EBU? Or the belt recognised by the NBA? Or the belt made up by The Ring? Or the belt recognised by the Pennsylvania Athletic Commission?

Trading tapes
Making compilation tapes using two videos and spending hours dicking around with the tracking
Fannying around on the internet in the early 90s posting on bulletin boards about boxing
Waiting hours for a reply
Using Netscape Navigator and remembering how much I hated frames.

Good commentators, Harry Carpenter just let the boxing speak for itself sometimes.

Same day weigh-ins, so both blokes in the ring were at least vaguely the same fvcking size by the time they got in the ring.

This isn't always the best for a sport though, see Barry 'Is he asleep?' Davies.

Agree with the old ITV theme and undisputed champs.

Does anyone remember for Amir Khan's debut they actually brought back the old ITV theme as it was used last? Then they briskly did away with it again for ever.

Not a lot of people seem to recall this, but I was almost creaming myself with delight when the opening sequence started.

I miss the pre-internet days. Boxing, like everything else, has become over-saturated. As a kid, finding the discarded remnants of a trucker's porn mag under a hedge bottom was Holy Grail stuff, those days are long gone.

Saturday afternoon fights like... Najib Daho-Pat Cowdell

Wednesday night fights... Chris Pyatt-Prince Rodney; Terry Marsh-Tek Nkalankete; Honeyghan-Mittee

15 rounds

All the top boxers being known because they were on BBC and ITV

Being able to talk to pretty much anyone about boxing and having a decent conversation

Ring walks just being a bloke walking into the ring.

Boxers in the 1970s seeming to be genuinely scary looking blokes.

Those funny looking 'Bryan' boxing gloves that were used in Britain in the 1980s.

Sartorial elegance
