Should profiteering on boxing tickets be accepted?

Post by palooka »

Given the news that many thousands of tickets for the Froch v Groves rematch have been sold very quickly; what do people think of the secondary market for tickets and touts etc? Sub human scum or just people trying to make a few quid?

lots of tickets on the secondary sites seem to be together but there was a max 6 per person on sales, plus how quick these went and appear on there I'd suggest these went straight onto these sites from Matchroom/See Tickets and we're never available the normal way.

I think it depends on how much they're trying to sell the tickets on for really. Also, if you were to stop it, should we regulate share prices and so on as far more money is made and lost on that.

Its such an unpolicied law. The amount of times I have seen people opening touting outside of stadiums right in front of police / security and no one gives a shit. It does wind me up and I feel more should be done to eradicate it but I am a bit hypocritical as I have used them in the past.

Tickets never sell for more than they're worth. They often sell for less than they're worth.

How do you define as what they're worth then? So are you saying a £30 ticket will only sell at 30 quid? The reason I ask is i've just seen some guy bragging on twitter how he's sold three £30 odd quid tickets for £150 each.

I really don't know enough about it, but i see it from my own experience,

I tried to get a ticket today, and for a while i couldn't even get on the page, then it crashed and basically i didn't get any,

now i may have to pay the touts more money for the same ticket i tried to buy earlier.

So, for me, i don't like em.

Let's be honest though, inflated prices go on in all walks of life. It's not good but it's the reality. I remember reading somewhere that a pair of Nike Trainers cost something like 3 quid to make and they're being sold for like 80/90 quid upwards.

yep agree with that, its just now i may have to pay more money for the exact same tickets i tried to buy earlier,

It was probably the touts all on there buying them up that made it crash for me in the first place!!! (can you tell i'm bitter about it and probably wrong about that part haha)

Oh well, we'll see what happens

No, I'm saying people should completely disregard the face value. The things you should consider are the seat location, the event, and how much you are prepared to pay for the ticket.

They're panic buyers and I warned everyone the other day it would be like this. People on here need to chill and wait for more info. DO NOT BUY ANY RIGHT NOW.

Best thing to do is wait for the fighters to start selling tickets from their allocations, of the supposed 60,000, thousands will have been given to the fighters to sell.

I'm still hopeful that I'll get some. However, if I can't get any from the proper channels, there's no way I'll entertain any of those amoral spunk trumpets trying to rip us all off.

It's a problem that goes far beyond boxing. I see people going mental at Eddie Hearn on twitter but realistically what the hell do they expect him to do about it? Until there's some kind of legislation in place this is only going to continue & we will all continue to get ripped off if we want to go to major events.

The recent emergence of StubHub (essentially legalised touting) is so depressing and only encourages greed. It looks like it's going to get significantly worse before it gets any better.

I know Glastonbury festival gets round it by having photo ID with your ticket, that's not exactly feasible for most events though.

Touting is a pain in the jaxi when you miss out but the real issue is the official channels giving tickets straight to channels like viagogo etc and claiming it is sold out. I'm sure that muat fall foul of the sale of goods act

Punters have a choice whether to buy or not mate personally I wouldnt buy above face value but if promotor has sold a block of tickets to an internet tout and I mean big companies it is not unheard-of to sell at high prices and the promotor and tout to split the profits its been going on since tickets were invented----- just like tickets never take sold out signs at face value Touts dont mug Punters mate Punters mug themselves this has been going on for years and always will while punters keep paying

i know what your saying but they bought the tickets i wanted to buy! and now i have to pay them more money for them purely because they got in first?

Let say there were only 5 tickets available, we both (me and the tout) go online to buy them at the time they get released, now for whatever reason the tout gets through and buys them all, i now miss out.

Now my only option is to buy them from the tout for more money? Thats gets on me nerves a bit

A few people have said to wait till nearer the time and i may get face value, but i'd rather have bought them now at face value knowing i have a ticket in place
