My thoughts on Jones-Tarver 2....

Post by adamiw »

for anyone who cares....

quite a few points to make so i thought i would do so on a new thread.

It wasn't a lucky punch. No such thing. Roy made a mistake plain and simple.

I believe him when he says he wasn't focused. 9/10 Roy would of landed that right hand like he did, and then move away to avoiud a counter. Even despite that, Roy a few years ago may of been able to get out of the way of the left.

It's a combination of things. The weight is still an issue. Sure he was in good shape, but he didn't look as quick as he used to be, nor as trim. Losing all that weight isn't a short term thing, it can effect long term. Thats why fighters who always stay around their fighting weight go on for longer.

Age. Roy is 35, and for someone who relies on his speed and reflexes, thats got to be a factor.

also Tarver's stance was a factor. An orthodox fighter would not of punished him with a big left, that was the shot that was on, and the shot Tarver throws best.

Tarver didn't prove he was better than Roy. He did nothing to the point, and punished Roy for a mistake, and he had the power to make that really count. it wasn't the type of performance that sends him to the top of the p4p charts.

Regarding a Calzaghe fight. Tarver doesn't like fighting at a pace. Calzaghe wont let him have a moments rest. It's a 50-50 fight that i would lean towards Joe in.

He has a tough fight against Johnson, but if he wins that perhaps him and Tarver can unify

i watched it on the internet. I would of loved to post the link, but because of bandwidth issues the server would of become too busy.

i gave Tuffnutz the link. When i was given the link i was told to give it to no moe than 2 people. I did that pretty quickly but then one pulled out cos they had to be up early this morning. That was at about 1 in the morning, and i just finished playing Tuffnutz at quake so i knew he was about and gave him the link.
