According to twitter, has been assaulted and had his leg broken in two places. Sad to hear.

I remember when Francie Barrett was attacked years ago.

Sad that these leading sportsmen are seemingly not reveared and universally respected within their own communities.

Really cowardly to attack in as a group. Sad to see when a talent doesn't get a chance to fulfil their potential. Hopefully Nevin can come back, just like Darren Barker did.

As I've said before, fair play only exists if your man is going to win. When the opponent is a world class boxer that's unlikely so things happen. To be fair, it happened to Brad Saunders and Scott Dixon as well do it's not just travellers.

True Mickey it ain't just travellers - remember when Eammon Mages got done as well? These cowards need weapons and/or numbers to take on quality boxers.

With the recent(ish) incidents involving Henry Wharton and Martin J Ward as well though for the sake of Nevin's career I would like to see him base himself in the states.

In Henry's defence, he doesn't, and never has, involved himself in anything like that. His family, whilst proud of their Romany routes, mainly live in houses and work in society. It was an unfortunate chain of events he got caught up in.

I can well imagine Mickey - Henry has always come across as an absolute gentleman.

Nevin needs to get away from all this family feud business and concentrate on his career.

I was told it was his own family and that sister was stabbed with a screwdriver too.

Obviously god knows if true, but he lives nearby.

It's really rotten, someone tries the best they can to improve themselves and gets dragged into something and hurt bad. I hope he heals quickly and gets back on his feet soon, there are always people happy to drag you down and do you harm :(

Pretty sure Eammon claimed it was an argument over a snowman that escalated out of hand.

Doubt very much that was the root cause!

I imagine the IRA and the other lot like to push in front of ques and be the bosses in their villages; I've never got the impression Magee would kiss anyone's arse or let someone push him around.

Seems this was the case. Apparently he was trying to act as a peacemaker in a family feud and was attacked with a golf club by a relative.
