Ricky Burns chooses Tony Sims
Ricky Burns chooses Tony Sims
Good move or not? Tony seems to be very popular at the moment. He must earn more money than any other British trainer at the moment?
Bit of a conflict of interest isn't there with Mitchell in the same gym.

how predictable. Don't see it as that productive a move tbh. Sims is Eddies fav isn't he?
What if Mitchell wins the IBF and Burns wants to fight for it?

Re: Ricky Burns chooses Tony Sims
I dont rate him as a trainer.
Re: Ricky Burns chooses Tony Sims
Seems pretty pointless but best of luck to Ricky
Re: Ricky Burns chooses Tony Sims
I'm sure I listened to an interview recently where Tony Sims said " I work for Matchroom" I'll see if I can find the interview. It's basically insinuating that he is on payroll
Re: Ricky Burns chooses Tony Sims
is eddie married to some one in sims family or other way about?
Re: Ricky Burns chooses Tony Sims
What was the point of leaving Billy to go and train with Sims?
Re: Ricky Burns chooses Tony Sims
Why fight Mitchell when he can fight Abril?stevieb_8006 wrote:What if Mitchell wins the IBF and Burns wants to fight for it?

Not sure, but his daughter is Chloe from "The only way is Essex"marv1 wrote:is eddie married to some one in sims family or other way about?
Not that's got anything to do with anything !
Re: Ricky Burns chooses Tony Sims
Cant see how that is gonna work out either? Is he gonna move down to london or? He's got a small baby, etc so I cant see this working out very well.expe wrote:What was the point of leaving Billy to go and train with Sims?
Re: Ricky Burns chooses Tony Sims
Probably travel down there, but still live in Coatbridge. Definitely don't see it working out though, just started a family, always seemed like he enjoys being at home and doesn't seem the sort of person that would fit in down in Essex. I would guess that Hearn has nudged him in Sims direction, because he seems to have become the in house Matchroom trainer, not sure why, but a lot of their fighters are now training him. Can't see how he'll have the time to give Burns the attention he needs, there's a lot of fighters in that gym.columbo wrote:Cant see how that is gonna work out either? There's interviews with Tony Sims and Ricky Burns up on IFL tv now which answers the majority of questions people are speculating over on here.

Sims is an experienced and respected trainer.columbo wrote:I dont rate him as a trainer.
A safe pair of hands who also is a level headed man in the corner.
He brings out the strengths in all of the fighters he works with.
Trust me he isn't a flavour-of-the-month trainer.
Re: Ricky Burns chooses Tony Sims
Maybe it's just the way he comes across in interviews I dunno. He seems a bit dense. Obviously i havent seen him up close though so admittedly being a bit harsh.G0mez wrote:Sims is an experienced and respected trainer.columbo wrote:I dont rate him as a trainer.

Yawn. When a few of his fighters lose we'll see how peoples opinions change.
Trainers, boring topic.

I don't see Sims adding much to Ricky to be honest. He should have went to USA.

Re: Ricky Burns chooses Tony Sims
He and Barker did a good job of hoodwinking the travelling fans and the thousands watching at home to think Barker had a chance of beating Sturm when they both knew his body was fucked, maybe he's pulled the same hoodwink with Burns?

Ricky also has to take into contention that if he ever gets a great oppurtunity in the States his trainer will have to give that one a miss, hardly ideal at World level

Don't worry, the Dazzler will step in and pull Burns out in exactly the same round his opponent is about to quit...handsofstone wrote:Ricky also has to take into contention that if he ever gets a great oppurtunity in the States his trainer will have to give that one a miss, hardly ideal at World level
