That was such a nothing response from spencer - by that I mean he didn't actually make a point. It was just waffle
He could have just said trainer and actually meant promoter, or he could have simply fucked up. Not sure which.

Re: Spencer olivers clanger on ringside
With all due respect to the pundits on ringside and Spencer Oliver but generally the guest on boxing shows add next to nothing. They give very little insight and how very little insider knowledge certainly no more than most people on this forum. They are all safe guys that are wheeled out again and again to regurgitate the same stock lines.
Often they dont know the history or even the figures in the game. Its upsetting and I have seen it a few times but that's the nature of broadcasting. Its not necessarily the most knowledgeable or best for the job that gets to voice their opinion.

Like when Degale, in reference to the world super middle rankings was going "is that Dirrell or his brother" and Johnny and Adam went silent.
Also on toe 2 toe you're getting spencer fearon talking about a fight that he admits he caught a couple of rounds of on YouTube. Fix up sky, you're paying your pundits to be erm pundits.

Re: Spencer olivers clanger on ringside
Spencer also stated on Ringside that Bernard Hopkins is in the best form of his career right now. Looks like Spencer completely forgot the Executioners 10 year undefeated run as IBF Middleweight champion, defending the title 20 times, and ultimately unifying the division.

Re: Spencer olivers clanger on ringside
Spencer fits into the category of 'Yes' man for 95% of the time, along with most of the guests/pundits on Ringside. Most of the show is a Matchroom advert with Johnny and Adam getting giddy over the same old jokes every week. The guests that don't seem to 'go with the matchroom flow' or aren't involved in 'the circle' are very few and far between, but that is to be expected I guess.
The only parts of the show I find interesting are Ed Robinson's and Andy Scott's segments. Johnny getting in the ring and messing about is more comical than anything else.
It made me laugh when they stated this week, think it was Adam, 'what a couple of weeks we've had in boxing!'... Yes, and not one fight was shown on Sky Sports!
I'd favour slimming ringside down to a 30 minute segment, getting rid of Adam and Johnny (paying for their jollies) and actually broadcasting some 'live' boxing every week. Some great little cards they could pick up such as the Golden Boy card this Monday gone and the one on April 3rd that was a HW show, also the Kovalev fight wasn't picked up by any UK broadcaster.
I want live boxing, not Johnny bumbling over lines and Adam's schoolboy excitement over fights they won't even broadcast or poor matchroom mis-matches hailed as the next monster card such as Manchester!

When Smith, Nelson & DeGale all couldn't work out which Dirrell brother was in the Top 10 rankings, I was genuinely shocked, definitely a new low for Ringside. 2 full-time pundits can have no excuse for this lack of basic knowledge of the current scene.dbf wrote:Like when Degale, in reference to the world super middle rankings was going "is that Dirrell or his brother" and Johnny and Adam went silent.

Re: Spencer olivers clanger on ringside
Ringside is SO BAD I haven't been able to watch it for more than a few minutes in years. It's painful.
Smith is a gormless clown and Johnny is clearly in the wrong role as Smiths hapless sidekick
The guests they have on are just as bad, made worse by just how awkward Adam and Johnny are. It's a reflection of just how terrible Adam Smith is in the job: he should be fired
When you look at the production values and studio pundits that Sky have on their other sports shows, such as tennis & golf for instance, it hits home just how rock bottom bad their boxing shows are.
God awful is an understatement

Bunce knows his stuff domestically. Get him on the international front and he drops clangers on a regular basis.Boxerbeetle123 wrote:When Smith, Nelson & DeGale all couldn't work out which Dirrell brother was in the Top 10 rankings, I was genuinely shocked, definitely a new low for Ringside.

I look forward to Ringside though it's far from perfect. I don't mind Smith, he delivers his lines well. Unlike Johnny who is awful. I can't stand the unfunny stuff where they make Johnny clown around. The in ring role playing where they attempt to show what a fighter needs to do to win makes me cringe for some reason. It just doesn't work IMO.
But overall I think it's a good show - I just wish sometimes it was less glossy and less 'jokey'. Boxing is different from other sports, people get hurt and it's not light hearted. I would prefer more serious analysis and less shit eating grins. It's not football AM or whatever. Still it's something I like watching and has to be better than Bunce (I actually like the format on bunce's show; it's just him I can't stand)

Re: Spencer olivers clanger on ringside
We all make mistakes and say daft stuff; Spencer is sound, knows his stuff and is decent with people at shows. It must be a slow news week when he's put in the stocks for a mistake like that.

I've been saying this for years too. I cannot understand how anyone thinks Adam and Johnny are anything other than buffoons.
Re: Spencer olivers clanger on ringside
I watched it again just to look at the faces of Nelson and his sidekick, they showed no reaction on their faces at all and slip of the tongue for Oliver would be one word not a whole sentence, It is hard to watch Buncey anymore, his jokes become a bore after a while, plus he has got so biased towards Warrens fighters, whilst Sky are biased towards Matchroom fighters, it's like Labour and conservatives, too political now, Buncey invites anyone on his show, I am expecting his local milkman next, whilst it very predictable with Sky, Trish Dixon magazine editor, Eddie and his fighters and Oliver, wait for it, for his expert knowledge, plus on both programs the decorating is horrid, it's like watching cartoons..The_Don1 wrote:Oliver said on twitter it was a "slip of the tongue" yeah, ok mate!

Did you not see the Milkmen wars on tv, it was like drug wars over turf, yes they do but cheap milk at supermarkets have made it difficult for them, but yes Buncey invites anyone, that he can use as a sidekick for his stand up.columbo wrote:I know you were being sarcastic but do milkmen even exist anymore?!
